Something like this:
https://thepiratebay.org/description.php?id=8397067

PArt of the description is
Quote:Record screen, online video, and gameplays Record live video and everything happening on your computer screen: Windows interface, PC video games, online video clips, and live streams. Create video tutorials and demos by adding captions and the voiceover to the screencast. Record at full screen or just a selected screen area. Adjust recording settings and save captured footage in any format. Capture webcam, HD camera footage, TV, and VHS Capture video from DV, HD, and HDV cameras as well as TV-tuners. Save MPEG2-TS and AVCHD video from camcorders to PC. Revive your old movie collection stored on VHS cassettes. Capture webcam video to create video messages – and share them on your social networking account right away.
Is this what you are looking for? If so, Maybe do a search for Movavi stuff, as there appear to be more recent versions. I was going t try to rip stuff from Netflix, but didn't since many others were doing it... I can't give you a personal opinion on how it works but that is what I was going to use...

If you wanna grab a video stream from a site screen-recording is overkill. Jdownloader can download most video streams for you just by parsing the web page. In some cases you'll have to dig through the page source yourself. There are plugins for firefox as well that do the job: https://linuxhint.com/video_downloader_firefox/ been a while since I tampered with that since jdownloader just werks™ for me in most cases.

Edit: forgot to mention, VLC can stream and save online media streams, if you have the direct link to the stream and don't mind spending a lot of time figuring out a confusing user infterface -> https://www.vlchelp.com/download-online-video/

I second this. Been using jDownloader for years and years and it does the job well. As you say, it downloads the original video file without transcoding it, which is a good thing for quality.

If you download videos from a site like YouTube you'll mostly get .mp4 files. I'm sure most, if not all, sites support that file format.

I know this can be a long shot, but have you tried download managers like the aptly-named "Internet Download Manager?"

It's a shitty name, but it's good at what it does.

Once you procure IDM, go to the webpage, load the video, and then just download it when the option is there.

If you want freeware, you can try the following:

Xtreme Download Manager: https://subhra74.github.io/xdm/
Free Download Manager: https://subhra74.github.io/xdm/

Hope this works.

EDIT: As I was too busy typing out the solution, I neglected to realise that the person asking the question asked it months before my happy solution.

Still, it makes a good FYI.
