When I bought it, in 2007, the place charged me $215 Canadian, which included five burnt games of my choosing. I didn't (and insisted that) want or need that kind of service, but I caved.

I'm too lazy to convert the figure, so just run a conversion tool and convert the figures yourself.

My only hope is to the Ritek DVD-Rs.

EDIT: If that doesn't help either, I'll switch off the mod chip and use the Fortuna Project.

This project can have you play pirated games without a mod chip.

hobec24423: Perhaps you an answer my question: if I replace a faulty lens on a modded slim PS2, will that affect (i.e. cancel, reset, disable) the mod chip?

PS2 Slim laser DVD reader tends to die fast when using burnt games.
Just use JVC Pro/Taiyo Yuden. They are best possible disc that exist on the face of the earth and best for console games too.
Also PS2 is best played on CRT TV.
If you replace lens the modchip will still work as usual as it used to.
