Codecademy is great! I highly recommend it because it's interactive learning, which is the best!

There are also some cool games around the internet for learning how to code, too, actually. Makes it more fun, in my opinion....

General advice:

Nobody makes commercial websites in Dreamweaver these days.

And nobody really builds websites from straight PHP anymore. For thant you need to learn PHP, MySQL, javaScript, etc.

The general tendency for website developers is to use software Like Drupal, Django, Wordpress, and other 'CRM' type packages. On these programming is actively discouraged, since updates would generally destroy any mods.

And updates are necessary since website software needs to stay a moving target. A roll-your-own software would be unmarketable since one would also need to prove one has the security background to maintain it.

PHP-MySQL skills are needed on some of the older Ecommerce sites like OSCommerce, as the database integration necessary for large inventories is poorly developed (business database -> website database).

To test and develop websites, a good idea is to download and learn XAMPP (for either Win or Linux).

Also advise, that a good website software to play with at home as the software used here - MyBB - its got alot of addons and versatility to make it more than just a 'forum' software.

The ultimate versatility comes with Drupal, with over 7000 addons, it can do everything, but learning it is probably harder than learning C++.

maybe merge these two, they seem to be pretty much the same question.

I would also suggest W3school as it is the best website for freshers as well as experienced.

I learned some HTML from Funky-Chickens.
Fortunately you can use the way-back machine to see it: https://web.archive.org/web/200502190052...ickens.com

I also recommend http://HotScripts.com
It's an invaluable source that gives out functional code for free (mostly). That way you can build off of or learn from what's already there.

Here's a straightforward guide on HTML: https://arachnoid.com/lutusp/html_tutor.html

A little intimidating though.

Good luck!
