WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE MODERN POET
#1
Until recently I gave little consideration to poetry, that's until I listened to Elvis McGonagall's recital on 3D printing people on the BBC. Now I have developed this love Heart for this art and I want to hear them all, from best love poems to the funny ones , I don't want to miss anything.

soExclamation, Please, who is your favorite poet. Huh

Does Dr. Seuss count?

As long as Dr. Seuss inspires you in a poetic form.

Yeah, he inspires me to eat green eggs and ham! Tongue

Actually, in high school, I've been studying Shakespeare. I remember one sonnet about him not having any other way in life.

"When in Fortune and men's eyes, I often beweep my outcast state."

But then, we're talking about a man that died about half a millenia ago. Not exactly modern, but a good poet.

Ian Mcmillan is very good from Yorkshire all though I would say that as I am from Yorkshire.

I couldn't have given a hoot about poetry growing up. My opinion was that I didn't understand it, and why would anyone do it? When I was taking a year of English is a community college, I was forced to comtempalate it, and analize it by the english teacher and I was always glad that I was forced to because it woke me to the fact that there is much beauty in poetry.
I like e.e. cummings ( I know that he liked to put his name in lower letters and I also think that he left out the two periods commonly) He died in 1962, so I'm not sure that it meets the standard of a 'contemporary' author, but I think/hope he is.
This poem seems to me to just roll off my toungue when I say it. It seems better than if I just read it (silently) off that page.

Anyone lived in a pretty how town

anyone lived in a pretty how town
(with up so floating many bells down)
spring summer autumn winter
he sang his didn’t he danced his did.

Women and men(both little and small)
cared for anyone not at all
they sowed their isn’t they reaped their same
sun moon stars rain

children guessed(but only a few
and down they forgot as up they grew
autumn winter spring summer)
that noone loved him more by more

when by now and tree by leaf
she laughed his joy she cried his grief
bird by snow and stir by still
anyone’s any was all to her

someones married their everyones
laughed their cryings and did their dance
(sleep wake hope and then)they
said their nevers they slept their dream

stars rain sun moon
(and only the snow can begin to explain
how children are apt to forget to remember
with up so floating many bells down)

one day anyone died i guess
(and noone stooped to kiss his face)
busy folk buried them side by side
little by little and was by was

all by all and deep by deep
and more by more they dream their sleep
noone and anyone earth by april
wish by spirit and if by yes.

Women and men(both dong and ding)
summer autumn winter spring
reaped their sowing and went their came
sun moon stars rain
