VPNs becoming mainstream
#1
Has anyone ever noticed that within the last few years VPNs have become more mainstream now?

Nord VPN especially is one of the most shilled for VPNs on YouTube which is a very shitty VPN.

Compared to like 5 to 10 years ago when VPNs were still mostly used by computer nerds like us VPNs have absolutely become a lot more mainstream now in recent years from what I've seen.

So i have to ask what exactly happened? and who is to blame for this?

What happened?

They became very easy to use, inexpensive, and heavily marketed.

They are an effective tool for bypassing copyright censorship.

Some use them because they think their ISP is spying on them. Really it is more likely the VPN provider is spying than the ISP.

Its mainly to avoid the DMCA nonsense.

ISP's dont care about it in reality, and neither really do the Feds. Spooks in their cubicles would go nuts without PornHub.

The problem I'm seeing with VPNs is that with becoming mainstream, more sites are taking steps to block them.

A VPN is just there to do its job.  It doesn't really matter what you think of it whether you think it's in the mainstream or not.  A VPN is all about making the right choice and going with the correct VPN and picking what you want the right plan and pricing and taking things into consideration.  Doing all the prior research first before diving in.  There are lots of VPNs that I would not choose for many reasons and because I know what these reasons are then I would most likely avoid them.

Not paid by anyone to do anything of the such.  It's just that I have several years of experience so have learned quite a lot.  Whatever you feel you want to think then go ahead.  Doesn't make any difference to what I think.
