User system issues
#1
Hello.

I've found very hard to use TBP 'user system'.
1. During registration there is no given acceptable username length.
2. During registration there is no distinction between username and email that are already in use.
3. During password reset there is no correct information for the banned email.
4. During log in there is no correct info for the banned username.
5. There is no mail send once the account gets banned, not to mention any explanation.

Regards & respect

That's all very true!
Issues that need attention by the staff.

Please forgive imposing myself, but I have to mention that unless TPB works on some external API, these issues require 15 minutes to fix.

If you were unable to register a longer username for whatever reason, you can request a name change in your Account Issues thread.

If you try to register using an email that's already in use, you'll know instantly because TPB will tell you the email is already in use.

If you try to reset the password when you've been banned in order to gain access to the account, it won't work for obvious reasons.

If you try to log in when banned, you should know there may be a problem when TPB tells you that you have a failed user/pass log in.

We ban thousands of fakers and spammers from TPB every day. We don't have the time, the inclination, or the resources to waste sending emails to people who've been banned, informing them that they've been banned.

Nothing mentioned so far needs fixing, and none of them are 'issues.' An issue would be TPB being offline, or uploading being borked, not someone who's uploaded 500 malware infected torrents in the space of two minutes not receiving an email notification that he's been banned for uploading 500 malware infected torrents.

Sir, TPB instantly will tell that either email or username is taken, not being precise about which one. This is not a big issue indeed.

Sir, obvious reasons are stated as 'this email is not registered'. I don't read that as 'this email is banned'. And I relate my lost of access to the password reset, thus I was trying to reset it again.

Sir, I know there is a problem, but based on TPB's response I'm rather trying to reset the password than ask about ban. Or make a new account since it looks like my previous one does not exists at all, based on TPB response during pass reset.

All of this is very reasonable and appreciated. Please just change any of the responses (log in or reset) to actually state that the account is banned, for the sake of less confusion for others in future.

The key to understanding why things are the way they are, and why they won't be being changed, is considering our different perspectives.

Your one account was banned. [That may or may not have been a mistake but you found your way here and we have given you the benefit of the doubt and revoked the ban.]

We ban thousands of accounts each and every day. The overwhelming majority of which are definitely not mistakes.

Our security system is designed to keep banned users out, because almost all banned users are not welcome.

Anything we do to make it "friendlier" to banned users will benefit scammers and spammers far more than it would benefit the occasional innocent victim.

You found your way here in spite of things being as they are, others do too.

Some don't and that is unfortunate but it's a small enough number that it is acceptable to us because a) it's a small number and b) such people can still use the site, they just can't upload or comment. It's not like we're executing anyone.
