It looks like TPB is not getting any new uploads since the 17th.

Rarbg is doing fine for the videos I want.
But it doesnt seem to do books and apps

Where are the major uploaders posting these days?

Also: I have a Newsdemon account, but it kind of sucks these days as nearly all the postings have obfuscated titles, and Newsdemon does not seem to have a decent NZB search. I dont want to have to pay twice to use a service.

Are there any decent Usenet providers that provide both the newsgroups and a decent NZB search (or deobfuscator)?

While I am certain eventually TPB will be fully operational again, it is alsway good to have a 'second' (or third) source....

Don't forget about Limetorrents.info.  That is a pretty good site really and plenty of the stuff that has been already posted to TPB has also gone there too.  Sometimes if I'm looking for a certain torrent I usually just search for the Hash and find it that way.

On Limetorrents.info you have access to the Magnet and also the Torrent file itself.  I did actually manage to upload a couple of torrents that were messed up from before and it worked.  I was thinking about planning to upload something else to try again.  I am planning to get an extra movie also added so might give it a go this weekend and see what happens.  Never know might work on here, then again maybe not I'm unsure.

At the moment I'm just using TPB with Chrome and using the UBlock Origin program with the My Filters added like suggested and it seems to be fine that way.

Sorry I don't know anything about Usenet at all so sorry to disappoint as I have no knowledge of that in any way.

I am not aware of any Usenet source that is both the archive and the index.

Try getting a more recent Newsreader (In torrent speak: a qbittorrent instead of say an old utorrent)
Nzbget might solve your obfuscated file problem.
You could try it first.

Newsreaders may have integrated search facility.
So it appears they do a 2-in-1 job. Downloading + Indexing. (There are torrent clients which do that now, i think)
Also, some providers (like Newshosting and Eweka) provide their own newsreaders. So it's all 3-in-1.
At least, that is my understanding.

Getting a separate 'indexer' account will also be helpful.
See usenetreviewz.com for suggestions.
General consensus is Newshosting is good. Eweka has its benefits.

So, to summarize, the following three should do.
A good provider which you already have, (In P2P language, a torrent network instead of say a eDonkey network.)
A good Newsreader, (In P2P : qBittorrent instead of old utorrent)
A good additional Indexer. (In P2P: A better site than TPB (to quote you).)

You need a another Provider only if have difficulty completing your downloads.
It is like using a sotnikam torrent instead of an identical one from TvTeam (where downloads sometimes don't complete).
In that case, you could try a suitable second provider on a different backbone.

That's my understanding. Hope it helps. As with DMCA problems, takedowns exist there too.

Well, the good news that TPB seems back up, with full torrents from the 14th to now.

With newsreaders, I typically use Agent, which I specifically like as an Email client due to its powerful filters.

For the NZB files I use SABnzbd.

Newsleecher can be used, but it is fairly useless without its rented search utility.

The problem with the 'public' NZB searchers is that there is no filtering from the billions of sporge postings out there (like yencpowerpost, et al) , and what glimpses I've had on private ones pretty much blow chunks.

I may have to venture into the bowels of IRC to get the NZB 'lists'. Just not so sure what server/channel!
(never taken a particular liking to it, though it is the best way to get/trade 'warez')

@rod - Thanks for Limetorrents lead. Had always confuused it with limeWIRE! It looks like a decent 'second source'.
Usenet is an interesting place to 'deposit' files, as typically they migrate across the major usenet servers in ther 'newsgroups'. Ideally these postings can be used as backups.
Newshosting has an indexer, but it would be cheaper to keep newsdemon, and go to a private indexer. The are a bit pricey.
Eweka is a reasonable site, but looks like just a server.

@SV - I believe NZBGet is something like SABNzbd, and I might already havit it installed. But I dont believe it indexes the NZBs . Please correct if wrong.
Ideally I woild like a newsreader with an app that allows me to download newsgroup headers, then yank the real filenames out of the recovery files, and present a deobfuscated list of headers .

I remember going on the eDonkey network many many years ago.  I thought the whole eDonkey thing was terrible.  I remember downloading a few things on there and found all kinds of nasty trojan stuff even in video files and it was that bad I just never went back.  Either just blank stuff that contained empty nothing or nasty Trojans trying to infect you with all kinds of nastiness.

Glad I never went back there again.  A very long time ago for me and thanks for reminding me to avoid the place for many more years to come.

Just realized Moe's reply was spot on. Newshosting is a provider, is not quite an indexer. So for all the de-obfuscation you need to use a good indexer.

Correct. NzbGet is just a newsreader. It is not an indexer.
SABnzbd is rated hightly too.

Correct. Eweka is a provider. Nothing more.

You need a good indexer (or two). Unfortunately, the good ones are not free. But they are not too expensive either.
If you are daring enough, you could set up your own private Indexer.

There are good, regular uploaders of ebooks who don't obfuscate.
Simply following their uploads would get you enough to read.
You can easily find them on binsearch.info

Yes, that might be the approach to take.

Hopefully there is a replacement out there for the legendary Rockhound.

@rod
I've never seen emule, as I was not impressed on what I knew of it in its day. Its remains seem to be foreign based, and unfortunately any unmoderated medium tends to fill up with infected sporge. Like Usenet. The Agent newsreader has powerful fiters, so after filtering out the 95% of garbage, whats left is usable if not obfuscated.

Thankfully the mods here clear out the crap in a timely fashion!
