Updating Jokes for Modern Sensibilities

I need to stay out of Twitter. I like some of the guys better when I don't see their Tweets.

Bill Corbett blocked me on twitter 2 years ago...and I absolutely have no clue why, haha.  Thank being said, good on them.  Progress often isn't easy but recognizing the landscape has changed and not doubling down on a losing hand when it's so much easier and better to just "fix" things...bravo

personally, i think that's great. completely in favor of it. good for them!

but I do also think they should explain/make public this policy, and start releasing with version numbers where applicable.

I love Bill Corbett and don't actually see his self-awareness as a negative. I follow him on Twitter too and generally love his tweets. If anything it has made me like him personally more. Turns out he isn't just funny, but is a genuinely good human being. It's Mike I am afraid to learn too much about. Over the years I have heard a few things, but it's been easy to ignore. Of the 3, I find Bill the most consistently funny.

agree! if the jokes in question were in good taste or even just funny enough then i'd be like whatever but they're not. in particular their use of the word gay, such as in reference to magneto, makes me cringe and was already way outdated at the time of release. this isn't lucas changing who shot first here, go ahead and update them.

The issue I have is: where is the line?
I mean, there have been jokes that rubbed me the wrong way according to my own opinions/beliefs/sensibilities. But what should I do? Complain? Ask them to sanitize their act? It seems like certain types of people get protected classes.

Nearly every joke is at someone else's expense. Heavyweight people, dumb people, ugly people, alcoholics, old people, young people, bad singers, bad actors, religious jokes, cultural jokes, accents, southern people, etc. etc. etc.

But the rainbow crowd = watch out, you'll be labeled 'transphobic' and asked to censor your material.

Why? It is because Mike is a Christian? Not a Democrat? That Mike and Bridget give a lot of time and money to charity through work with their Church? Do you demand complete ideological conformity before you can like or befriend someone? Should Mike and Bridget be cancelled?

Pretty pathetic. Is RiffTrax scared of getting cancelled I am the sure jokes against white southerners will remain.

Being introspective about things you aren't proud of and then doing something about it doesn't seem pathetic to me. I wish I acknowledged and addressed my regrets more.

I'd have to hear the joke in question, my hunch is it's not funny, good riddance. Imagine if they replaced all the unfunny jokes, bliss!

I would love it if they replaced all the jokes I found unfunny with ones I found funny. But I bet then there would be a bunch you would find unfunny.

That's my point. Who decides what's acceptable and what's not? Plenty of powerless people get thrown under the bus in the name of comedy. The ones who have power make sure they're not the butt of the jokes.

Who has the power? Who is it you're not allowed to joke about or criticize?
