Apparently the USA have a new military force to add to the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine. Did you notice the similarity to the (Star Trek's) United Planets Federation arms?

Used to be part of the air force. Since Reagan's star wars project I believe. Also, Putin has his own: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Space_Forces

Time to rewatch Star Troopers. I suppose those Space Commandos will just polish insignias and drill parades until the next century.

That is because both have origins in the NASA logos.

Starfleet may have big guns to fire at enemies, but it is not a military organisation, rather one that concentrates on exploration.
The 'defence' part does seem to emulate the Klingon Defence Force.

don’t believe the hype... going by that logic, a telescope duct taped to a rocket launcher is not part of a weapon system if you just use it to look at the stars... and if you just happen to find the need to use it, then so be it.
also, star fleet is indeed a military organization because they participate in regular military matters. they also participate in civilian police matters and that bothers me.

And they have the ranks, uniforms, protocols, and even Chapter 31. Not to mention the ship's captain loads a phaser model 1 (CCW).

Section 31.
They use weapons only for self defence; as the prime universe Captain Georgiou said: "Starfleet doesn't fire first."
EDIT: I like the idea that money does not exist nor is needed in the story. I don't care that they defend themselves because you have to be an idiot if you don't defend yourself against threats, despite the existence of a secret police like Section 31.
Besides, they made a screw up about Section 31. They are not supposed to be known until Dr. Bashir discovered them. He, even as a Starfleet officer, does not believe in their cause, stating that the "ends do not justify the means." Don't know why they were well-known before that.
EDIT: I do have a problem with this: the alliance with the Klingon Empire. If you watch "Yesterday's Enterprise," the Enterprise C didn't defend the Klingon outpost because it's the right thing to do, they defended it to avert a twenty-year war. It was a lie, not an alliance.
EDIT: And because of this lie, the Klingons don't respect Starfleet's ways of keeping the peace and not dangerously label certain cultures no matter how different. At one time, in "I, Borg," they even recovered a Borg drone because it was the right thing. Apart from Worf, Klingons don't speak highly of the Federation and respect them.
who fires first is just as irrelevant as saying that their weapons are just for self defense. star fleet defends the federation and fights it’s battles. that is the roll of a military organization.

Wasn't Starfleet in war with the Klingons?
War in google as being defined as
Quote:War is a situation or a period of fighting between countries or groups of people. A war generally involves the use of weapons, a military organization and soldiers. War is a situation in which a nation enforces its rights by using force. Not every armed conflict is a war.
Like Deuda says, they also have ranks that mirror the Navy.
It would seem to me as if the Army got warp drive and started missions to explore... Of if the Mars landing probe encountered aliens... If those aliens blew it up, would we send another probe with M-16s and nukes?
I always thought they were a military force, on a mission of peace representing the government of the United Federation of Planets
