Torrent Engine
#1
Hello everyone!!

Sooo... Did anyone here ever wanted to make or even try to have their very own site like 1337x, kickasstorrents, rarbg well I have good news for you.

I have recently started working on a torrent engine (Still no idea why)

Video url: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1...-16-39.mp4 (Couldnt add an attachement because of the size limit)

What I still have to make
- Admin Panel (For admin purposes ofc)
- Messages (Private messages that will not be shown anywhere, we love privacy)
- Notifications (No clue what this will be used for in the future, but decided why not)
- Torrent Page (So people will be able to post their own torrents including description but using HTML5 attributes however you guys can be the judge of that), I'll also add a comment section.

I will be fixing UI at the end of every feature and I also need some suggestions on what to improve and add, the website is not yet responsive either.

Should I release this or not?  Confused

This MIGHT be for free and open source. Smile

This looks like a cool project. If you're really interested in helping the torrent community long-term then releasing your project as open source is the way to go, IMHO. Benefits are: contributors, and also forks. Both of which benefit you in the end, as well as everyone else. It guarantees your project will live for a long time, whereas with proprietary code your project will die when your site dies, and then all work will have been lost. Open source is a win-win.

Imagine for example if RARBG had released their site code as open source. Then we would not be in this shitty position right now where RARBG was shut down and there's no good alternative.

I wish I knew more about torrent tracker software in general to be able to tell the ratio of open source v. closed source. All I know is one of my long-time friends used to run his own torrent site on software he helped develop in PHP. I just talked with him about it and seems the project had been around for a while before he joined.

Here's my friend's project anyway: https://sourceforge.net/projects/torrenttrader/

Thank you also for helping to keep the torrent community alive through your project! I'm always happy to see people explore their creativity to do useful things.

In a perfect world, everyone would have the courage to do so, but since this is not a perfect world the few will have to carry the torch and lead the way forward.

After a bit of work I've decided that I'll release as it is right now in this next week due to the lack of free time and my personal issues. If I'll receive enough support I'll finish the project, however you can add your pages and finish the admin panel.

Thank you.

For "having an own" search engine it is also an option to make the DB "localhost" and filled up by peers and rss?
this summarizes some ideas:
