In that case the governor will pardon him and be Trump's BFF.

There's always a way, like the governor getting a temporary absence and the replacement doing it. Or the high court finding a technicality. Any way.

Well, there are exceptions.... Former Democratic Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich was convicted in 2011 on several counts of corruption, including the sale of former U.S. Senator Barack Obama's seat to another Senator.    This was even more interesting....

On May 31, 2018, President Donald Trump, soon after having pardoned commentator Dinesh D'Souza, told reporters that he was considering commuting Blagojevich's sentence (without pardoning him), as well as pardoning Martha Stewart. Trump called Blagojevich's sentence "unfair", saying that Blagojevich's statements about enriching himself were "stupid", but also the sort of thing "that many other politicians say".  On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, Rod Blagojevich's petition, officially asking President Donald Trump for commutation of sentence was filed, although not without back straps of connections to ex-FBI Director James Comey whom the President had fired in 2017. I think you overestimate The Orange Menace's influence.  He has pissed off too many of Those Who Actually Matter (e.g., the Kochs).  Like so many others, TWAM would love to see TOM doing the perp walk in order to "restore The Rule of Law", etc., etc.  TOM is simply too oblivious to know or care how many criminal laws he's violated.  There are some signs that he is beginning to get concerned, but now is too late.  He has already done too much to fuck with TWAMs' money, despite the recent tax breaks.

Sure, TOM has gotten away with a lot of shit in the past, but before he was only a threat to those foolish or unwary enough to do business with him, or worse,  to actually work for him (like Cohen).  All the major banks in NY cut his ass off decades ago, which is how he got in bed with the Rooskies in the first place.  TWAM will abandon TOM to his fate.  That fate will not be a pretty one, as there have obvious signs for several months that Mueller and SDNY have been aiming their guns directly at TOM.  Even if that fool Pence is idiot enough to pardon his fat ass, this will do nothing save him from the state Attorney General of NY, who is already sharpening her knives for him.

Upshot:  TOM is totally fucked.  Time to go dacha-shopping with his buddy Pooty-Poot.

If this goes on, the current presidential democracy model will be in danger. Maybe USA 2050 will be a parliament republic.

Here I am more inclined to agree.  Congress itself has done much to contribute to the problem by ceding significant amounts of its authority to the President over the last century or so.  The current shitshow could well inspire a sustained claw-back of many of those powers.

Formula:  1 pardon = 0 jail

Umm the president has power to pardon federal crimes, not state crimes. Since Michael Cohen broke the law in New York City, the state prosecutors could put him in jail for 10+ years easy and Trump wouldn't be able to do shit about it.  Better to cooperate and do 1.5 years in a country club jail than roll the dice and end up with 10 to 15 years.

Even better would be not to work for a criminal like Trump in the first place and not break the law. Wink

Umm, Cohen got convicted of federal crimes.  Who's to say what the state could or would do.  If they had a good case against him, they should have prosecuted him since nothing will come of his co-operation re Trump.  Even if the Dems impeach Trump, the Senate will never convict him, so eliciting Cohen's co-operation is all for naught.  Just a giant waste of time and money.

Cohen is just a sleazy slimy lawyer.  If it were up to me, I'd give him the death penalty for violation of attorney-client privilege.

Glad you don't make public policy then, considering how dim you seem.
