The SuprBay Request Team

Purpose

The team was created with the aim of helping others find the media they're looking for - either by joining in the search for a requested item, or uploading and fulfilling requests ourselves. Everyone is welcome to help out in the request forums, and join in the banter on the suprbayrequest IRC channel.

Members

Anyone can help out at any time, as and when they can. Forum members can also hop on the suprbayrequest IRC chan for help, support, and chat.

Frequently asked questions about suprbayrequest

Is there a fixed team?

No. Members can help out as, when, and as often as they like.

How do I join the suprbayrequest IRC chan?

Jump on tpb main by clicking 'Chat' at the top of the page, pick a username and connect, then type this:

Code:
/join #suprbayrequest

If you're already on IRC and have a client, type the above to join the chan.

The chan is fairly quiet at times, so don't freak out if you jump on the chan, say hello and get no response. Members live in different time zones, may be at work, eating, or whatever it may be, and certainly don't sit there all day waiting for people to type stuff. You can type your message then lurk for a bit by keeping the tab open while you do other things, eventually someone will reply to your query.

What are the benefits of the IRC chan?

The chan is run by SB/TPB staff/crew, and whilst on tpb main, you can't post certain links, on here you can - if you're seeking advice whether a site is reputable, or whether something is in the desired format etc. If you're on IRC all day, you can keep an eye on requests as they're fed through to the chan once posted on the forum.

Do all requests get fulfilled/answered?

Of course not, we're not machines. Members tend to help out in the sub-forums they're most familiar with, but are welcome to reply to any of the requests. All requests posted on the forum are automatically fed through to the suprbayrequest chan, which is nifty for those who lurk on IRC all day, but aren't necessarily logged into the forum.

Can members only post TPB links when replying to requests?

No. TPB doesn't take down torrents unless they're fake/malware etc, so naturally many torrents are already on TPB, but members are welcome to post links to other public torrent sites.

Is there a time limit when fulfilling requests?

Not at all, and sometimes members will request items that aren't due out for another year. Answering an old thread is okay in that respect, should the requested item be uploaded upon release, plus many users get email alerts when their thread has been replied to, so even if they haven't been active for some time, there's the chance they'll see the notification and respond accordingly.

I've found a link for a request, but I'm not sure if I trust the site it's on... what do I do?

Hop on the suprbayrequest chan and run it by the team members on there. If you find a link and you think it may be dodgy/fake, then don't post it on the forum.

When searching for any media item, it's always worth knowing whether it has been officially released. When checking if there's a legit release of a bluray movie out for example, this site is worth bookmarking. If you know suchandsuch a movies Bluray release date isn't for another 6 months, none of the major uploaders have uploaded it, and you see it on a site claiming to be a bluray copy, you can be certain it's fake.

Always provide URL links when responding to requests, if you've found a torrent someone wants, share it with others who may want it, by posting it.

Are there any guidelines for replying to, or creating a thread in the request forums?

Yes, and you can read them on the request forum index page, but it's worth repeating them here.

Before posting a request:

Despite those guidelines, members still posts threads called 'ebook request' and forget to state the name/author, and will post a reseed request without a torrent link and expect everyone reading to know what they're talking about. The guidelines are simple, they're common sense, and they're there for a reason - to help us help you.

When replying to a request:

Some members of the forum are totally new at torrenting, this may be their first forum, and they might not be experienced and knowledgeable when it comes to navigating the internet.

For that reason, and in trying to promote a helpful attitude in the request forums,
smart-arse and unhelpful replies are not welcome, your post will likely be trashed, you could be modcalled or warned, or even earn a ban for persistent unhelpfulness in that part of the forum.

Telling someone to 'go search' is patronising, pointless, and shows the writers pig-headedness in expecting everyone else in the world to know the same stuff they do. Besides which, not only does google search sometimes fail, you can search for it on TPB, get 0 results, but type it into google and get a TPB link. Go figure, but it happens. Common mispelling between normal English and American-English words are another cause of empty results, so never assume someone is an idiot just because they couldn't find something at their end.

Replies to requests should be about the requested item, preferably with a link. If someone posts a request for an item that you have very strong feelings/opinions about, don't derail the thread with off-topic rants about it being propaganda/offensive/shite/whatever, and instead create a thread on the subject in GD, E/L/P or whatever forum is appropriate for the topic if you feel that strongly about it.

Post helpful replies in the request forums, or don't post there at all. A request in that forum is a request for help, not a request for off-topic arguing.

One more thing, if you upload a requested item for another member, add 'suprbayrequest' to the tag field to promote the team. Smile

A note about the suprbayrequest irc channel: the channel is still open if anyone wants to join, but as yet we have no feeds coming through from the forum, so for now, we can only see new requests as and when they get posted in the requests forum.

Thanks to those who are still keen to help out other members by giving up your time to help search for requested torrents, and bandwidth to seed or upload them. As soon as the feeds start coming through again, I'll post here with an update. Smile

Thanks to rndpirate, the feeds from all the request forums are now coming through to the irc chan, which is ideal for those who lurk all day and pick out requests as and when they come in. Smile

You fulfilled the request okay, but maybe you're having connection problems on IRC. I see you've already joined the chan so I'll alert you on there to talk with you.

If any other members would like to help out, please do, as plenty of requests are still unfullfilled. I'd like to remind members that sometimes, people put a request in and never use the forum for anything else, and might not be that proficient in navigating the internet, so please bear this in mind when replying to posts in the requests forum, as unhelpful sarcastic replies such as 'if you bothered to search google, blah blah blah' are completely unnecessary, and only serve to inflate the poster's ego because they know something another person doesn't. Pirating is about helping and sharing, not one-upmanship.

Thanks to everyone who currently helps out with requests, and please keep up the good work. Smile

i found this website which u can use to upload a torrent and receive a link.. that link when given to a person will download that same torrent and only the person to whom u give the link will receive the content... i hope that made sense..

http://zoink.it/

the reason that i mention this is because sometimes requests are answered with direct download links which at times are country specific so in case you run into something like this.. u can use this website to save ur bandwidth and not necessarily have to upload the torrent to a public site where it is accessible to the world..

hope this helps u guys... Smile
