TPB - magnet link - tracker correction
#1
For a while now i have noted that the magnet links on uploads are pointing to a tracker that has changed address.

TPB magnet point to: udp://zer0day.ch:1337

while in fact this has changed to: udp://zer0day.to:1337

Check http://zer0day.to/ for details. I also checked several sites with working tracker lists (to see it's not a scam), so i think it is legit.

It's becoming quite a pain to manually change this on every upload 3 times (i download to 3 other boxes)

Would appreciate if you could look into this matter and change it accordingly.

Many thanks in advance, GRNS3

BTW, sure, i also use DHT Smile

Yes, if it's wrong, it ought to be corrected (or, better yet, deleted). And Winston will probably do something about it some day.

But in all honesty, it is completely and utterly irrelevant. It's not like it stops or even slows down anyone torrenting--I hadn't even noticed there was a problem.

So while we're waiting for Winston, which is likely to be a long wait, the workaround to manually changing it on every upload is to stop manually changing it on every upload. Doing that makes no difference to anything or anyone anyway.

Winston was told a while ago. Like already said, someday he may choose to fix it.

Or maybe take the next step and remove the trackers altogether since they are unnecessary.

Thank you both for your kind reply. I was actually only pointing to the fact it is incorrect. I will stop manually changing it, as it is really not needed at all.
I only look at the tracker tab for a quick  indication for details like seed count in the first hours after upload (when site has not updated yet). I am also interested in the number of downloaders in total and some trackers like coppersurfer give at least an indication about that, although this number is not reliable. For example, my latest upload (Beatles flac) shows 31 downloads total, while my servers have seeded it 103 times :Smile so i know DHT is taking care of about 2/3 of total connections / downloads.
Just curious, would deleting the trackers / magnets on tpb not also influence seed count on the site?
Anyway, i consider this matter as solved, thanks for your time and attention.
Best regards, GRNS3

Not necessarily, and not directly in any case.

Although the trackers included in the magnet links are known, and those are the trackers all downloaders announce to, Winston has never revealed publicly or even privately to staff which tracker or trackers TPB scrapes (or how often, or how differences in reported swarm sizes are resolved) to find the swarm statistics displayed on the site. [Which is why we're unable to help people upset that their torrents are depicted as having no seeds even though they're seeding.] Obviously, removing zer0day.ch from the magnet link would make no difference as it's no longer operational.

What he ought to do is stop even trying to scrape trackers and start scraping the DHT instead. The seed stats would then be considerably more accurate. [But scraping DHT is more complicated programmatically and significantly more computationally intensive on an ongoing basis.]

I am also seeing a possibility that there will be no more torrents with zero stats since you mentioned considerably more accurate.

If trackers addresses have been corrected and then they change addresses again then it's better to remove them all and replace them with DHT.
