Been awhile since I've been active, eventually I'm gonna look more into this and see what needs to be done, but it seems solid for now..

Most just grab the hash and search it at many of the available torrent storage sites (torrage.info, btcache.me, thehashden.org) rather than actually using the magnet protocol to retrieve the torrent meta-data.
Obviously this relies on someone having uploaded the torrent file to one of those sites in the first place as they are passive storage services. You could conceivably use a meta search engine like torrentz and follow it to one of the indexes that still serve torrent files. Don't know how much demand there would be for such a feature. Most modern clients speak the magnet protocol.
