I am in the process of buying a Playstation 2 for a friend and am wondering which venue of modding to play burnt (duh! ) games.
I've looked through modding services and pre-modded PS2 consoles, and to be succinct, no dice.
I am now looking forward to reading about Swap Magic. In order to weigh the options, I would like some help by garnering some opinions that explain pro and cons about the product.
Has anyone used it? How durable is it? Where can I buy them?
You see, I bought my PS2 pre-modded at a Chinatown far far away, but that was ten years ago. Now, with all the raids and closures, those folks have shied away and sell bootlegs only from their own country, no more pre-modded systems.
I know I'll probably need to buy online, which I have no objections, it's just that I would like to save some money in the process.
I appreciate any help I get in this thread. Discussions are welcome, but no trolling and flaming. Thank you.

i have used two or three different versions. they all worked fine. if the ps2 is fat you need to open the tray with a hook or a knife. if it's slim you need to open the lid with the button but you have to "untrigger" two sensors with the supplied plastic thingies.
i think swap magic only doesn't work for the following: EA sports games that haven't been shrunk for swap magic and games that are split in disc 1 + disc 2

How does Swap Magic fare compared to mod chips?
Would you recommend that I buy a memory card modded via Free McBoot?

i haven't tried mod chips, so i can't compare.
i haven't tried free mcboot memory cards either, so i can't recommend them.

Well, just answer me this: you said that the ones you use work fine, how fine?
I mean like besides EA Sports games, which I don't have/won't bother with, what about the general consensus?

how fine? well, working flawlessly and as expected.
you load the swap, you change the disc, and the game loads.

That's good. At least it is working.
Where did you get your Swap Magic?
EDIT: And oh, one last question: is your Swap Magic capable of booting burnt PS1 games?

Website? Or did you actually go to Spain and buy them?
If so, does it actually fix the colour to fit the NTSC TV standards?
EDIT: Apologies. I lied about the other post being the last. It seems that I have no end of questions.

i ordered them from spain. ordered them from. that means i ordered them from spain. not that i went to spain.
regarding the color issue, i never used the crappy A/V cable that comes bundled with the console,
i always used a proper RGB cable (purchased separately) so i always had proper colors on all games
(pirated and non-pirated) regardless of their standard (NTSC or PAL).
