I have a five-channel home theater sound system (front, back, left, right, sub-woofer) that captures the ultimate in sound when I play back DVDs or BlueRays via a BlueRay player.  When I download a movie from Pirate Bay via torrents, if the download came from a DVD or BluRay can I expect to be able to re-capture that full sound if I use VLC Media Player to do the playback?

Or, is there something I have to look for in the details of the torrents to see that the file being downloaded has all the elements needed for full-sound?

When I play the movie back I am using a VGA connection from my computer to the big screen TV and a stereo headphone out jack for the sound.  The VGA connection gives me the video, but since I am only using the headphone-out port to send the sound to my audio system, is there something else I need to do to get the 5-channel sound?

You need to have a torrent with a multi-channel sound track, a connection from your computer to your system that supports multi-channel audio, and a player that delivers it.  VLC can play back multi-channel audio, and HDMI is probably the simplest way to connect your systems.

You can do it with a headphone jack, but then you'll need to make sure the torrents you download have a stereo track that includes Dolby Pro Logic for additional channels.
