I'm a simple man. When I get home from a long day at work, I expect only three things from you jackwagons:
Dinner on the table
The latest release, synched and ready to download
And your undying devotion.
I mean, nobody has even put up the obligatory [REQ] thready about it yet? You guys are SLACKING!
(I'm of course joking, in case you're one of those rare people who can't pick up sarcasm through text. Though, really, chop chop, people (again, sarcasm). I bought the MP3 already but I SUCK at doing the syncs (it takes me hours and there's still always something off about them), so I rely on you fine folks!)

oh, you, bsg4you, you
y'know, I'm torn about this, I've been feeling underwhelmed by RT lately. The last ones have not been very funny imho and I'm honestly god-damned tired of Star Wars. It makes me feel physically tired, the same way with action or super-hero movies. But on the other hand, this one could the best one yet and I don't want to miss it. I know I'm complaining over nothing, but I wonder if I'm the only one who feels that way. What about you guys ? I mention this while remembering how disappointed I was with the new MST3K season. On one hand I'm happy it's back and hoping for more seasons, but the execution left me so cold that it makes me not that interested in it at the same time...

I enjoy Rifftrax's takes on low budget turds, but I think I'm in the minority when I say that their riffs of the big budget hollywood type movies are my favorites. I LOVE the riffs of the MCU and Star Wars, and even movies I DON'T like, like Transformers. I don't know why. When I saw the email hit my phone a few minutes ago that said "Our latest Star Wars riff is here!" I literally yelped in delight like a little girl. I think these might be my favorites for how easily I can put them on as background noise and no matter what stage of the movie it's at, if I start paying attention at random points, I really haven't missed anything. The movies are ridiculously predictable/simple to follow, even if you haven't seen them before.
I also really enjoyed the new season of MST3k. If we didn't have the guys doing Rifftrax, I might be upset that new MST is pretty different, but we basically have the original MST minus the SOL skits still going strong, so I welcomed the new tone of the new season readily. I really liked most things about it, except the movie selection... it wasn't bad or anything, but it wasn't anything that I really enjoyed either (not that you ENJOY these shit movies, but you know what I mean, right?)

I don't know if we're in the minority (that Rifftrax does far more older works these days and only the occasional contemporary work would suggest you could be right), but I'm definitely there with you in preferring the Riffs of the "big budget hollywood type movies".
And since I've 'branched out' into Quiptracks and Matthew Elliot and the like, the new people doing MST3K is - as you say - a great companion addition to what we get from Rifftrax itself.
It's a 'golden age' for riffing.

I do find Rifftrax to be about 50/50 hit/miss over the last couple of years and I'd like to see a 50/50 release ratio of VODs to mp3s. I understand why that won't happen (they make more money on VODs) but there is a lot of big budget crap that they'll never get the rights to release as VODs that deserve a good riffing.
And I enjoyed but didn't love Season 11 of MST3K and have had a hard time going back and re-watching it despite most weeks watching at least an episode or two from the original run. I hope to see improvements in Season 12.

i want blockbusters, and nothing but. they should change their animated intro if they're just not going to do them any more; if this is from where the rifftrax legacy comes then they should keep giving us what distinguishes them from MST3K. the older movies get tedious, especially this newest barrage of 90s movies with the world's first CGI. c'mon guys flex your muscles, you're bigger than freakin' iRiffs and random YouTubers aren't you?? i was so incredibly let down by that Justice League riff when it turned out to be MKB for only 20 minutes, it's almost like they know it's what people want but still aren't doing it. i'm going to stop now because it feels sacrilegious to badmouth MKB, but that's the ONLY reason i'm stopping. MOAR BLOCK BUSTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the main reason they stopped focusing on Hollywood blockbusters is just the fact that those movies get really boring after a while. The current crop of franchise filmmaking is a bit generic. Once you've riffed one, you've riffed most of them.

Back in the day, the riffs came out the day the disc went on sale in the stores.
My guess is they lost their pre-release source...and that source may have been throwing them some coin to do certain movies ("Hey, help us sell copies of this turd by riffing it")

They stopped because they can sell the old public domain stuff for more. I remember them saying a long time ago that people didn't want to sync the riffs so the stuff they could sell already synced did better.
