Searching For Torrents
#1
I've never had a sophisticated system for finding shit that I want to download online. Mostly I just type name of shit followed by torrent. In the last six months I have been seeing a major reduction in the amount of legitimate torrents that appear in the search results.

This hasn't always been the case, though. When I first got into torrenting, TPB was always at the top of the list with KAT trailing just behind. Now the top entires are either LimeTorrents or even worse, something entirely unusable like a YouTube video or some other link. From time to time I have used the Google site:URL of site search modifier to get results to show up, but with the recent hiccups experienced by both TPB and KAT recently, those methods become less effective.

So lately I have defaulted to using the search engine on KickAss, which I must say is pretty easy to use and nice.

What is your normal method of searching for particular torrents you want to download?

My search of last resort, if after all the ones you mentioned come up empty, is "BTDigg DHT Search Engine."

http://btdigg.org/

Especially nice because it seems to search also the files within the torrent and not just the torrent name. Like the old IsoHunt used to do.

i usually search the phrase followed by "torrent" in quotes, to match the exact word. sometimes i will search a phrase in quotes too. torrentz metasearch finds many, but it removes a lot due to DMCA. bitsnoop probably has the largest database in the world, indexing from several other sites, but they will also remove results due to DMCA and the seeders are rarely ever accurate. if all 3 of those prove to be ineffective it's very unlikely that it exists on a public tracker.

I agree it is getting harder but I can't say it's particularly hard even now. I've always used a range of search options. I think it's silly to limit yourself to just one as some fans of some sites do. [Of course you have to be a bit careful about what you choose to download from where, but that's not really hard.]

I don't particularly think about it when I'm searching, as it only takes a minute or two.  I guess I probably rattle through, in general order:
torrentz, tpb, kickass, google (with "torrent" as a keyword, and sometimes "download" or site: as well), bitsnoop and finally btdigg
Once I've found something, depending on how it looks, I'll sometimes "re-search" google using the hash value to see if I can out more about whatever it is.

If it's a TV show I'll go straight to EZTV first, then, historically, tpb.  But kickass is taking over as my second source--their "View all episodes" feature is really cool.

If it's a really old TV show I belong to a couple of private trackers.

Hi guys, it's my first post and I'm not trolling but just wanted to spread the word that there is an alternative to BitTorrent that has a built in search engine called eMule. I've been using it since the 20th century and it's still going well, especially for those hard to get old tv series.

Aside from that KickAssTorrents is still my favorite! Big Grin

I've recently started using Mr Bing (bing.com) and obtain better results than Gogol for "name torrent" searches.

Opera's Torrents Multisearch add-on is useful and convenient.
