This user exclusively uploads high-quality video, mainly Blu-ray rips. Comprehensive catalogue of series. He claims that encoding quality is higher than in Grym releases.
I'm most concerned about cropping — is the native aspect ratio always preserved?

It's pretty good that he's doing something to make a difference.
Keep it up, Rod!

Simple answer: yes
If you want a discussion, then: why wouldn't it be? As you point out yourself he rips his own content, from Blu-ray. So there are no bugs or subtitles on the image that he would have any reason to crop. And he has a reputation for quality, so why the fuck would he crop? or skew the aspect ratio? For no reason? just to undermine his own reputation? Are you serious?
As for the relative quality cf. Grym, they're in the same ballpark. That's why they talk themselves up so much: to try to swing downloaders. If there were a definitive quality difference then it would be obvious to everyone, downloaders would settle on whichever of them they preferred, and their would be no trash talk as it wouldn't be able to convince anyone.
Think Coke vs. Pepsi arguments compared to Coke vs. single malt whisky arguments. You don't see any of the latter because the differences are obvious to everyone and nobody who is in the mood for a single malt could possibly be convinced that a Coke is better; and vice versa.
PS. The aspect ratio and quality arguments are both moot anyway. Even if the aspect ratio was skewed your media player or TV could fix it. And since both of them are encoders i.e. they both reduce the sizes of the video files by reducing the quality of the video then nobody who really cares about the highest quality would ever download from either one of them.

I would like to upload to TPB again but I'm having problems with the 500 Internal Server Error. I keep my usual Piece size around 8MB, it's always worked in the past. Unless I'm uploading something that's 200GB+ I usually go for 16MB. If you check most of my releases in 2017 and before, they have always uploaded with 8MB piece, simply using the Auto setting in uTorrent, but trouble is at the moment the server just rejects me.
I'm ready to go with some more stuff, more stuff on the horizon but I'm just waiting now before I can distribute more on TPB and find the right kind of downloaders, it seems that without TPB I'm just waiting until I can get things going again.

Yes.
His releases are quite good, and are comparable to the ones offered on private trackers.

I've never altered aspect ratio when encoding a movie. I just crop away the black bars that's all and get rid of those where as VonRicht leaves them on. I did actually think at one point it made a difference to the size by leaving the bars on but it doesn't I tested it once. I would never tamper with something like that, why would I really because I wouldn't get downloaders otherwise? I get plenty of downloaders but they seem to come from TPB mostly, I have managed to upload loads over the years and I've not heard many complaints so it must mean there's a lot of satisfied people out there. I would say that probably if there's a lot of comments on a torrent it could mean there's a lot of problems?

Off topic I guess, but how does cropping the black bars help? You said it doesn't reduce the size, so why do it? I wouldn't think it makes much difference either. But doesn't it help some players if the black bars are there?
I'm not smart, so if you could explain any of that in more detail, that would be cool.

The best way I can describe it is if you play a cropped file on a super wide monitor, then it means that if you stretch the image you don't end up with a letterboxed effect. So like with VonRicht, what you get is a letterboxed result which won't play on Monitors that are anything beyond 16:9. I know that a lot of people will buy these things and that Wide Monitors are quite popular now, if you look at certain companies they sell these a lot. They have greater width than TVs and it means that if you choose to play a movie on one of those, a Grym release won't be any good. When you're releasing movies for people, you have to consider all the possibilities which is what Grym doesn't do. He doesn't consider the people who might watch a movie on their PC with Super wide monitors take for example when you go to the cinema. If the movie is super wide then you don't see black bars because they extend the screen before the movie starts so they can fit the image in and it looks like a proper movie presentation. Makes sense to me, the only person I've ever known in the history of torrent making that leaves on Black Bars is Grym.
I think the people that download Grym's stuff must be satisfied with Black Bars and Letterboxed files. Me personally I don't like things like that, just looks to me like bad results that are produced while encoding. Doing things like Grym is not really my cup of tea, he goes about using different programs to me, probably which is why people sometimes complain of image freezing and momentary glitches in the video. But no it doesn't make any difference to a media player if you play a cropped file. No difference what so ever.

RodneyYouPlonker, have you considered releasing lossless Blu-ray rips? Remux is likely preferred since you (and many others) don't consider extras as important. You could try re-releasing some of your most popular video uploads.

No because room is money and room costs and I'm not prepared to pay for that kind of storage so no thanks I'll just stick to what I do. Not much in it anyway my rips are very high quality. You'll find that some are the same anyway due to the rate differences on different releases so it's pointless trying to do stuff that can't be done.
