I am thankful, James!

Might we talk about the weeping head wound on Bill? Actually that sounds awful.
WTF happened? The man has a bloody wound and a bump on his head.

Sad

I'm sorry i brought it up.
Be well Bill.

That might have been the Live where he fell down some stairs at the place they were staying. I can't remember.

Man... I hate to join up with the users who have been bringing up the quality of the writing & humor as of late, but I don't agree at all that this one was excellent (no offense, MalakJoe).

This one was just awful. You can even hear the awkward silence in the audience after almost every quip. And almost every quip seems to be a rehash or a reference to another riffed movie/short or a tired repeat of an overused joke. The jokes outside those criteria are just bombing, one after the other. They're not clever and they don't have any of the witty, spontaneous feel of past riffs. Another thing that is really starting to grate on my nerves is how one of the guys delivers a joke and one of the other guys follows it up right away with some kind of comment that assigns a title to the joke or attempts to add a little garnish to it but just comes across like really awkward, forced small talk or something of the sort. It makes me uncomfortable to hear it over and over again.

Of course I'm a longtime fan of MST3K and Rifftrax, but I'm not trying to point that out to add weight to my comments. It's just that it is kind of a bummer that it's all so "clean and tidy" now and just seems tired. It's really odd, though, because some of the releases still have plenty of creativity and great riffing throughout much of the film, but then stuff like this one pops up and makes me wonder who is responsible (and should probably either quit or be let go). With so much material in their repertoire, though, I shouldn't be at all surprised that some of them are going to be bad. It's just weird that some are SO bad.

I agree 100%.  According to the "My Account" page on Rifftrax.com I've been a member for over 15 years, a Founding Traxian member, and a Founding Drip member and in that time the quality has fallen to the point of embarrassment.  It probably doesn't help that most of the writing isn't done by Bill or Kevin anymore.  It almost seems like they're just actors paid to read lines whether or not they're funny. I know I've said this before but The Film Crew and their riffing of Hollywood movies era was the height for them.

If anything I've uploaded to the site or the requests I've fulfilled has helped you (not you specifically) then do this experiment for me please.  Watch the The Two Towers and/or The Return of the King (If you need them) and when it's all over I want you to tell me that the same company that created those is the same company that exists now.

In the words of Kevin during Sharknado 2 after another yet another joke fell flat, "Come on people we have a lot of movie to get through here. Thank you.". Now if you'll excuse me I'm going back to watching the Star Trek VI riff.

Oh and before I forget, fuck Conor Lastowka.

Appreciate the share. My 'glass half full' perspective on the relative funniness - Mary Jo Pehl's last free Twitch performance had me laughing various body parts off.

I want to disagree, but I cannot. There are funny people under the age of 40, but it seems there are no funny "hipsters". In accordance with your observations in your post, hipsters cannibalize material rather than add a new flavour to comedic material. It's merely "regurgitation".  As you said, "garnishing".  But a parsley garnish is not a bowl of salad.
