Niger Delta - The War For Crude Oil
After having been the hope of an entire people in the 1950s, oil became, half a century later, the worst of their nightmares, generating corruption, kidnappings and civil war. In the Niger Delta, black gold has awakened the fiercest appetites and generated the biggest oil spill of all time. For twenty years, the government army and oil companies have fought hand in hand against the rebels, who are demanding better sharing of resources. Because, in the delta, despite an oil windfall amounting to billions of euros each year, the population still lives on less than two euros per day. This documentary, in the form of a road movie, shows a violent reality: the true price of a few liters of gasoline at the pump.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib holds a sign (“Guilty of Genocide” and “War Criminal” on the opposite side) during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the United States Congress in Washington on July 24.
Ahead of the speech, Tlaib issued a statement decrying the United State’s role in funding the war in Gaza.
“ Make no mistake: this event is a celebration of the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians,” Tlaib said of Netanyahu’s address.
“ It is a sad day for our democracy when my colleagues will smile for a photo op with a man who is actively committing genocide. It is hypocritical to claim to be concerned about the massive death toll of innocent civilians, and then turn around and welcome the person responsible for these war crimes to our Capitol. Their silence is betrayal, and history will remember them accordingly. Our government must stop supporting and funding this genocide now.”

Due largely to lagging runoff prevention efforts in the Midwest, the low-oxygen area in the Gulf of Mexico is bigger than expected this year, imperiling marine life across nearly 4 million acres.
The dead zone occurs every summer and is caused in large part by nutrient runoff from the overapplication of fertilizer on Midwestern farms. During rains or flooding, water carries the fertilizer’s nitrogen and phosphorus from fields into the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
When the nutrients reach the Gulf, either from the Mississippi or the adjacent Atchafalaya River, they ignite an overgrowth of algae. As the algae dies, it decomposes and sinks to the bottom, depleting oxygen from the water.
When this happens, animals like fish and shrimp will leave. Some commercially harvested species such as shrimp will concentrate around the edges of the affected area, forcing local fishermen to travel outside the dead zone to cast their nets.
Bottom-dwelling creatures, such as clams and burrowing crabs, aren’t as mobile. They cannot leave the dead zone and will suffocate and die.
Gulf ‘dead zone’ is larger than average this year, the size of New Jersey

Interview
Gaza Health Crisis Exposed | Dr Mustafa Barghouti
Dr Mustafa Barghouti describes the situation in Gaza as the “worst ever made-made humanitarian disaster”. He exposes the systematic and deliberate healthcare catastrophe inflicted by Israel on Gaza with diseases spreading, widespread starvation, lack of clean water, shelter and sanitation amid Israel’s ongoing bombardment and devastation.
He lays the blame at the ongoing impunity granted to Israel by the international community and demands a seismic shift in state policy, calling for immediate and harsh sanctions on Israel by all states.
Dr Barghouti calls for Palestinian healthcare workers and journalists alike to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their services to humanity.
