Can someone throw this up on torrent or some other download site where I don't have to install and run an alien executable program on my personal home computer? Much appreciated, thanks.

You just download it through Chrome.

Yes, I second this.  Specifically-- Mega's 'Download through your Browser' option will work even for very large files if you use Chrome.

Tom Servo's MP4 won't play for me. I tried VLC, 321, and a few other players. They all either quit, stay on a black screen, or throw an error. Video converters can't begin conversions because they all say the file is invalid. I tried downloading it again (both times using Mega's app), and both downloads completed successfully and both files are the exact same size, but I still can't play them. I've downloaded a lot of the Rifftrax videos from posts here via the Mega.nz site, but this is the first time I've ever had a problem playing a file. I'm on an LG V20 running Android 7.0. Any ideas? Thanks!

the Tom Servo video encode is:

1) variable frame rate vs rifftrax/bsg4you videos which are constant frame rate

maybe your video app, os, cpu, gpu doesn't like variable frame rate. i always use constant frame rate to avoid synch issues and variable doesn't seem to save much/any space anyway. "Scene Rules" on releases seem to require constant frame rate unless it's a web source that's variable frame rate.

https://scenerules.org/
[2016] TV-720p
7) [ Framerate ]
7.1) Constant frame rate (CFR) must be used.
7.1.1) Variable frame rate (VFR) methods are not allowed.
and
[2013] SD-X264
3.6) VFR (Variable Frame Rate) techniques are not allowed.
etc...

encoding recommendation: if it's an option, pick constant frame rate. (note: i think handbrake does variable by default which probably leads to lots of variable encodes)

2) the tomservo video bit rate is ~3533kb/s vs rifftrax 2500kb/s

your v20 cpu/gpu might be more taxed with the higher bit rate but the lg v20 seems pretty beefy and should (i think) be able to deal with the bit rate.

bottom line:

1) watch tom servo's excellent encode on a full os (windows/mac/linux) that can run the desktop version of vlc or, if on windows, potplayer. not to mention you can run mediainfo and other utilities.

2) barring that, if someone posts the "Grizzly HD Medium (1.72 GB)" from Rifftrax it's very likely to play fine since your lg v20 has played all normal rifftrax encodes before.

@ bsg4you, thanks for the input!

Today I downloaded the same file on a desktop computer. When the download finished, I copied it over to my phone in a different directory. What's interesting is that THIS file plays just fine. I compared the file size for the good file versus the bad one and they are identical. Then I looked at the checksums and that's when I noticed that they didn't match. I don't know what this means, but here's a screen cap of the files' details side by side.

(pay no attention to the noodz folder behind the file properties img... that's for umm...that's my friend's folder)
