Regarding 1080p, 720p, "resolution.."
#1
I have a thought regarding uploads on TPB, that labels certain movies as 1080p or 720p.

I do not know if have misunderstood this "all" my life, but when I see a movie "as 1080p" in a headline, then it should be the LENGTH of pixels in the TV it shows, aka/ergo the resolution of video file, ergo 1080x .... .something ..... x500 maybe.

But in some that labels 1080p movies I found out the resolution was 1920x800, and some 1920x1080, and some 1080x500, and 1200x...550?...

Or it those 2 different things??
Or am I just a complete idiot...? .. a retard..

Thought I understood this  :-p
Thanks in advance.

1080p/720p are based on a "HD" image having a 16x9 aspect ratio.  So 1920x1080 fits this exactly.  1920x800 still qualifies as 1080p because it conforms to the dominant film aspect ratio.  So while it doesn't truly have 1080 vertical lines, it is still "HD"

I have no idea what those other two resolutions come from, but they're in the 720p ballpark.

Some videos have black bars on the top and bottom. Some people crop those out and end up with strange video resolutions.

Even though the black bar is not encoded into the video you will still get the black bars.

Hang on, 1080 / 720 is not the horizontal side but the vertical one.
