Punish Music Pirates With Finger Amputations, Artist Says
#1
[Image: carrot.png]If there was a guaranteed and cost-effective way for the creative industries to clamp down on piracy, rest assured they would take it. Unfortunately, there is no silver bullet in today’s arsenal.

Ordering ISPs to block ‘pirate’ sites is one approach, but at least in the first instance the process is both expensive and drawn out, often taking a number of years to come to fruition.

Another method is to hit Internet users who dare to download and share copyrighted material. Some frameworks, such as those in the United States and United Kingdom, envision a situation where people can be persuaded to do the right thing after receiving warning letters. More aggressive schemes, such as those in South Korea and New Zealand, foresee potential disconnections for persistent pirates.

But one musician in Nigeria believes she has a quick and easy solution to stop people illegally pirating her work. Her version of the so-called “graduated response” is controversial, but might just work.

“Cutting their fingers off will stop them, by the time you cut off two people’s fingers others will stop,” popular singer Stella Monye told the News agency of Nigeria.

Amputations, the singer says, are doubly effective. Not only do they act as a deterrent, but already-punished pirates will not be able to re-offend either.

“If their fingers are cut, they won’t [be able to use the hands] in pirating the works,” Monye said. “They will learn and it will be faster in stopping them; without a drastic measure they won’t stop.”

Web blockades have been previously described as a potential abuse of human rights, but Monye’s anti-piracy solution pushes new boundaries.

ahhh... yes, such a progressive solution.... but first, let's chop the feet off of every nigerian prince who needs help cashing a check.

i think i'll go 'illegally' download some of stella monye's music to see if it's even worth a finger.

^^ Yep, stella has been starved of attention in the nigerian tabloids, who haven't really focused on her since she was ill with emphysema back in february. The poor old attention whore needed some way to climb back up to the gutter, hence the fingers story.

Guess she doesn't know about the 3D printing revolution and 3D fingers/bodyparts...

I think anyone that creates something physical should get this kinda reward!

I want to get 1 cent for every line of code that i have written that gets used where i work after i leave. And if they don't the owner gets his fingers cut off one per day until i get my payment!

I am sure there are tons of artist out there that create artwork that gets used every day and they don't get paid for each use.

The entire idea that hey i can create something and get paid for it for the rest of my life is crazy imo and is part of the reason modern music sux so badly. Lets give them 1 year of making money than they have to make something new people will buy and everything else is free for use.

.................................
seriously....living a life of a man(REAL) is can be considered as more "valuable" and more "inspiring" than some artistic artificial tones of randoms combinations of sounds based on someone imaginations while he/she sitting on his "creativity bench" while Billions is struggling to just have a bite of food for his family today by crushing a limestone to build someone "creativity bench"...
and guess what?
he's going to get next limestone's crushing with his penis only because the person that sitting on their "creativity bench" ask him his fingers because he downloads a song....
funny world I lived in
