Now that I've downloaded the APPLICATIONS, what do I do now?

Okay, for most of you this will be another idiotic question but for me it is vital.

I've done great downloading, watching and seeding movies. Tremendous success I would say. But that's easy.

So I thought I'd try downloading a software Application, specifically a Piano VSTi to make my digital piano into something profoundly more musical, like a Steinway Grand, etc.

So I searched and found and downloaded this HUGE file from the Galaxy Piano Library.

And I also downloaded Kontakt 5 v5.1.0 UNLOCKED R2R like was suggested in the comment section.

It's all there now, this list of alllll these many different pianos to choose from, over 20 GB worth of piano libraries.

And the Konakt 5 is there too as a list of files.

But how to get these Kontakt 5 files to open and become the Kontakt player that I can use and upload this fabulous piano library into. I'm clueless as to how that is achieved.

It's not like I can click on any of the Kontakt files and it opens or goes into an installation and set up process like the usual software downloads.

Maybe some of us can only manage being baby pirates since after that things get real complicated real fast.

HELP!

read martimparente's comments... especially the stuff about uninstalling and cleaning the registry.

I think the OP is having trouble doing the basic install of the player itself, not so much the libraries. If that's the case, then...

Your 'Kontakt 5 v5.1.0 UNLOCKED R2R' files should be .rar files. You need to use winrar/winzip/7zip or another similar program to unpack them. That should give you a file, probably an .iso file, which is a disk image.

You take that file and mount it in a virtual drive using Alcohol 120 or Daemon tools or something similar, and then you can install it like any other disk.

If that still doesn't make sense, do some searches, or post again and someone will probably go into more detail.

Wow, thanks for the help. Yes, I did search and downloaded an unpacking program and tried that on them and then 7zip as well. It did something with them but I I'm not sure what. Sorry, I can't see if they are .iso files now. and then that next part about mounting them to a virtural drive using Alcohol120 or Daemon tools- well, that might as well be in Russian. I don't have a clue what your talking about.

sorry,

Here's the translation from Russian to English.

If the last four characters of the file's name are .iso, then open that file with Alcohol 120 or Daemon Tools. These applications will mount the iso file causing it to appear as hard drive connected to your computer.

System Folder speaks Russian? Or is it just using http://translate.google.com ?

Anyhow, you don't need to use Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools. Most burning apps in this world support ISOs: Nero, Imgburn, cdrtfe.

Russian: Могу ли я говорить по-русски? Может быть. Wink
English: Can I speak in Russian? Maybe. Wink

Thank god for the instant translator in gmail. I get messages from my friend in Moscow that....well, I can't even guess what they are about. When I was there, the subway system was extremely difficult and iffy for me. I had to try and memories the look of words since I didn't know the alphabet. And he would write down instructions for cabbies for me to show them.

So, I understand this application download process a tad more than I did yesterday. It's like, the information that comes on a disk with a software purchase but in the form of files that arrive all compacted. They have to be uncompacted and then you pretend like you are making a disk copy but it is in your computer.

I found the requisite programs/apps to so these things and now I think I have something on my pretend disk but I don't think yet that it is right- like I can open it and see files and folders and I can open those and see more of those but can I click on something and Kontakt appears? NO!

And, since I'm really bad at knowing where my files are on my computer, I use the search for Kontakt and up comes row upon row upon row upon row upon row of Kontakt files, mostly they refer the piano library or may parts of several pianos. And then there is the Konakt 5 but can I open those? no and oddly in my downloads place I can bring up a list of these files that came with the Kontakt 5 download and most of them (oh about 8) look to be the identical number of bites and all that. I'm thinking that they are all the same thing accept all broken save one, not sure how that came to be in the process of downloading. But the one that doesn't seem to be broken, I think I unpacked it and made and image of it but to get Kontakt to install? Not there yet.

Here's to learning..... and maybe failing and never getting "there".

Okay, shockingly, I think I'm getting closer. I managed to go through the set up of Kontakt 5 and now it is there to open on my Desktop. It is blank, no instruments in it yet but not to worry. I downloaded this HUGE file package of 4 different fabulous grand piano libraries. Now, to get them into the Kontakt 5 player.

When I open each of the four piano folders, a long list of @20 files comes, each exactly 97.657 KB each "having been last modified" at a different time. Oh, they are all "compressed". It might be like the other where these are all copies of the same thing all broken save one. (mystifying)

It might be that I have to do that unpacking trick and then the making the virtual disk thing for each of these pianos. And then I will be able to load the libraries into the Kontakt players.

Sound right?

Oh, this guy on TPB that had success loading the libraries into this one particular version of Kontakt 5 said this:

library tab-> add library...
Then you choose the folder where x_info.nkc and x_info.nkx!

Oh, in answer to Benedict Cumberbach, I didn't have to uninstall any previous versions of Kontakt nor clean the registry because this is the first Kontakt that has come to my computer- followed the advice of the guy you mentioned.
