So I recently bought my new PC for gaming and a bit lost. I managed to download a few games on here and they installed fine on my laptop. Need for speed the latest version runs fine and I was trying to play it using my shied controller. Am I right to assume for me to have controller support for these games I need a different controller?. If so what controller do I need please? Thanks.

Well, you shouldn't. Assuming that I know which type of "controllers" you are using, I would say that all controllers, excluding the default keyboards configurations, are just there for added pleasure; they're there to make the realism more apparent.
If you don't have extra controllers, you should be able to do fine with a keyboard.
Hope this helps.

Hope this helps. Hello thanks for replying. Am using a nvidia shield controller but it only works when a game is either in the steam app or nvidia shield app. Any games outside these apps the controller does not seem to work.

Oh, I'm sorry, my thinking was a 180 from what you mean. I didn't know it's "those" that you mean. It could be a proprietary issue altogether, not an anti-piracy issue.
You see, you can't use a joypad to play StarCraft II.
I am guessing, though it's like that I'm wrong, but we can start with this premise, that some games aren't meant to work on the NVidia Shield. Let's try other solutions and see if this premise holds water.
EDIT: Found this, thought it was important: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments..._pc_games/

Hi thanks for the link. Yes it appears the nvidia shield controller won't work. What controller would you recommend please to play my downloaded PC games thanks.

I rarely play with controllers on PC games, just the keyboard and the mouse.
When I really play with controllers, I would just play them on consoles.
In conclusion, default controllers, that's all.
EDIT: Well, I would like to add that I am sorry that you can't find what you were looking for. However, you can try the Playstation 3 controllers that can be activated on USB ports via a device driver. I don't know, just see if it sticks.

Hope this helps.

Are yu running a Microsoft PC or a MAC?
I played Need for Speed on my MS PC, and I used an Xbox controller (since MS makes XBOX). I loved it. Robert X says you can use a PSX controller since they are a USB port.. If you can , I'd say use what ever is most comfortable for you, but my transition from Xbox360 to PC gaming was pretty smooth using the Xbox controller...

Thanks for clarifying that, LZA.
It seems that I have a tendency to trip on my sentences.

You didn't trip on anything... If I had my choice...if I knew, i'd go with the PSX controller. I just thought the only choice I had was the Xbox...

Most PC games in the last decade have come with partial or full xbox controller support.
For best compatibility on the PC it's best to go with that one.
I would also prefer the Playstation controllers over Xbox.
