These are x265 HEVC with AAC audio encodes of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Return Season11 BluRay box set. Constant quality RF = 23.50 was used unless the resulting encode was too large (over 4500kbps) or too small (under 2000kbps). In those cases the RF was adjusted so the encode was just within the desired range of 2000kbps-4500kbps. The audio was sourced from DTS-HD 5.1 and the subtitles are passthrough from the BluRay (i.e. no OCR). The subtitles are italics for riffing and they note who is riffing - Jonah, Crow, or Tom - and if they are speaking or singing.

The following logos were removed or shortened so when playing an episode it immediately starts with an SOL establishing shot. After the stinger scene at the end of the episode, 3.5seconds of the silent Satellite of Love LLC logo is shown and then the episode ends. The documentary was fully encoded including the opening and closing logo. Including some removed beginning and ending black frames, the total change in time is about 17-18seconds less for each episode compared to the BluRay.

Opening logo:
*Netflix(open) ~5sec - completely removed

Closing logos:
* Satellite of Love LLC ~4.0sec - shortened by ~0.5sec
* Abominable Pictures ~1.9sec - completely removed
* Shout Factory ~4.0sec - completely removed
* Netflix(close) ~5.3sec - completely removed

Thanks so much for these. I've been wearing out my Netflix account for one reason - the Netflix delivered versions put the movie sound in the front speakers and the riffing in the centre speaker. These files with 5.1 finally let me enjoy them the same way offline.

You beautiful bastard, bsg! Maybe once I'm done x265-ifying my South Park collection, I'll get to work on my MST3K collection, too.

Did anyone else notice a problem with the actual films shown in "Starcrash" and "Carnival Magic"?

I'm far from being a technical expert, yet it seems like the frame rate is all wrong.

i just (re-)checked both starcrash and carnival magic, comparing the bluray m2ts and the x265 encode.

the source and x265 encodes seem to match to me.

the key is to look at the non-movie, satellite bits. those look crisp on the x265 encode.

thus any "problem" is the from the movie they are riffing, not the x265 encode.

the movie bits i just compared for starcrash all looked good: bluray and x265 encode matched and were both smooth.

i did catch some non-smooth video in the carnival magic movie (not the sol segments) though most was smooth.

the key is the one bit of carnival magic that wasn't smooth had the issue in both the bluray source and the x265 encode.

as far as i can tell, anything not smooth is in the bluray source and it's only the movie, not the sol segments.

btw, both the blurays and the x265 encodes have the identical frame rates and i have always used constant frame rate for all my encodes (never variable):
Frame rate: 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS

I probably should've mentioned the problem was originally occuring in the original TV release. I've replied in here since the problem repeated itself in this release as well.

The SOL segments ARE looking well and everything I've mentioned is in the movies, nothing more.
