Need help with port forwarding
#1
It's been a while since I've done torrenting. I've gone to my router and forward the ports, disabled both firewalls, yet sites cannot detect my port.

Utorrent detects my port is open, but still shows a listen error on the bottom right.

I've migrated from Windows XP to Windows 7...so I don't know if the steps to port forwarding changed or not.

My router forwarding page for any reference.

Thank you for your time.

I hope am right here. (fingers crossed).

You need to forward both TCP and UDP ports in your router.

Also, do not disable firewall. Just enable specific ports. Else your PC is open to attack.

I use a fixed port in my bittorrent client (starting and ending port are set to the same value in my modem/router config)
This same port is used in my router portforwarding configuration.

From: http://www.bittorrent.com/help/manual/chapter0203
Quote:The general rule of thumb you should follow is that you have to allow incoming TCP and UDP connections through the listening port set in the connection preferences. Because you are forwarding a specific port in your firewall, it is imperative that you do not have BitTorrent randomize the listening port each time it starts.

Also from same manual: http://www.bittorrent.com/help/manual/ap...each_start
Quote:Randomize port each start makes BitTorrent select a random port between 1000 and 65000 to use at startup. Note that this option might conflict with your port forwarding settings, so if you manually open ports in your router and firewall, it's best to leave this option disabled.

You could also have a look at http://portforward.com/ . Browse and locate your router type for specific instructions.
Google-ing 'how to port forward [your router name]" will usually get you a tutorial.

I hope I have it right and it works :-)

Thanks for the help, but I had someone tested my torrent for me and was able to upload them at full speed. It also showed as a green checkmark for my program.

I'll keep these for reference. I guess when it comes to other countries and peers, they're much, much slower?

As long as you are able to upload at your full capacity you need not worry. Since the 'status' is green, port forwarding looks fine.
It may just be a coincidence that some 'slower' peers are not from your country.
It is possible that you have lots more upload bandwidth than the download bandwidth of your other peers.
