I can't tell if people are going to take me seriously when I say this - but Sophie Scholl - The Final Days.
It's a German film and I won't be surprised if they're going to remake it in Hollywood very shortly, and utterly butcher it when they dumb it down for the North Americans.

Did well for awards, and it was up for an Oscar.

Hello. I'm a beginner here and just getting used to posting on this forum. Trying to quote a previous post by "Beerkey" in which they say how much they enjoyed the movie "Dial M for Murder (1954)"

I liked "Dial M for Murder" as well. But I'd like to recommend some other Hitchcock films that I enjoyed a whole lot more.

My personal favorite Hitchcock film is Saboteur (1942). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0035279/

It's not necessarily a great film and I don't think many people would agree this film is close to being their favorite film. But if you have watched most Hitchcock films, there are several themes that are common to many of his films that come through very strongly here. First is the way Hitchcock feels about the police. He doesn't like the police. He thinks they often try to say things in a way that make the police seem to be a lot more important and a lot more valued than they really are. Second is the commentary this film makes about the war years (say 1940-1944). Several things about that time period come thru loud and clear in this film. Overall, it's a very enjoyable way to spend 90 minutes or so if you like Black&White films that give you a feeling of what it was like to live in the USA during the war years.

Two other Hitchcock films that I would consider to be near the top of my list are:

. Family Plot (1976) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074512/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_1
and
. Frenzy (1972) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068611/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_2

The two films above are the last two films that Hitchcock directed and they both give the audience a very good feeling for what life was like to live in the 1970s. Family Plot is about living in the USA while Frenzy is about living in Great Britain. For many reasons, these two films are very near the top of my list of favorite Hitchcock films.

I hope to post more of my favorite Hitchcock films later.
