Pirating their software is one thing, you've made it a vendetta, and I think it's not going to bode well for the community as Ballmer now has the authority to shut down everything and make heads roll.

I'd say their proprietary business model and corporate bullying (of competitors, customers and pirates) is taking things too far. Fuck them. They deserve to have their precious source code shared and there's no better way to hurt that corrupt stinking cesspool of a company.

Thank you for this post i already have the file downloaded and was wondering myself if someone had a password for this.
Seems every where is the same case.
However i have some rarpassword software that will reveal the password. It might even take 2-3 days to crack it.
But i'll post it here if its completed.

It would be great if you cracked the password. Lots of people all over the world wondering what the password to that RAR is, and what's inside that archive.

I wholeheartedly concur.

Kind of sad seeing people on 4chan posting the NOTREPACKED torrent, which has way less content... Everyone should just unite under one torrent to create the biggest possible swarm, and guarantee long-term health of the torrent.

'Microsoft leaked source code archive_2020-09-24' is the real leak. The smaller NOTREPACKED torrent is just some jealous narcissist who wants attention and spreads lies.

Password for 'windows_xp_source.rar' is:

internaldev

However, I don't find any *.cpp files in that extracted directory. Only directories and .bin files, it seems. I wonder if those bin files can somehow be read, or extracted.

I had really planned and kept my PC 2 nights running just to find its password.
But u did it, it seems their are clever people in different places.
But the extracted file doesn't have much content, except for .bin files.
I don't know programming but can just hope to use what OP is using.
makefile is 0KB, how can anyone work with it.

I didn't create that archive. It's from 2007 or 2008, so blame that person for faking it. I agree that it looks fake as hell, but we never would've found that out unless it was included in the collection and reached this many people. I didn't crack the password either, but saw it mentioned by someone else. I'm not sure I even found the original 4chan thread where it was first mentioned...

Ahh well. At least those people who wondered for 12 years what was in the RAR can now relax. The real XP source is in nt5src.7z (included in the collection).

LillyLacTac, supposedly, trade secrets that were open only to Microsoft will be exposed to the hackers.

They can probably actually become an asset in making anything that Microsoft slips by us.

An educated guess only, but I suppose they would be that beneficial.

Fant0men, please don't mind my writing as English is not my most fluent language.
U did great by finding the password. It would have taken months for me to crack it.

The torrent was updated.

https://anonfiles.com/b1F6mbc4p3/Microso...04_torrent

Since the last version of this torrent, the file 'misc/windows_xp_source.rar'
has been discovered to be a fake, so it was removed. If you want to know more
about that file, check 'misc/windows_xp_source.rar.txt'. The directory
'windows_research_kernel' was accidentally included twice in the last version
of this torrent, so one of those directories has been removed. You can find the
remaining copy of that directory in 'misc/windows_research_kernel'. The file
'pdf/XBox Underground (Part 2).pdf' has been replaced, as the previous version
of that file was incomplete.

Some videos have been added to 'media/', and I've included an additional script.

All in all, these are very minor changes and this torrent is nearly identical
with the previous versions.

You can safely remove 'windows_research_kernel', and
'misc/windows_xp_source.rar', before loading the new torrent in your torrent
client.

Again, if you've downloaded any of the previous versions of this torrent:

You don't have to re-download the other files. Just remove the old
torrent from your torrent client (without deleting the data), rename the
directory to 'Microsoft leaked source code archive_2020-10-04'. Add the new
torrent to your torrent client and force it to do a re-hash / re-check of the
files, if it doesn't do it automatically.

A source code leak of proprietary software is as valuable as the Coca-Cola recipe. Like Coca-Cola, companies like Microsoft depend on certain secrets and when those get out it kind of ruins their whole business model. There's very likely a lot of code from the XP days still in use in Windows 10. So it's embarrassing for Microsoft that this leaked, and it will allow people to create their own version of Windows.

It's alright. I understand you clearly. Thanks for all the links! I'm also happy we found out the password Smile

Yeah, there are some components missing in the source code, but there's source code for multiple versions of Windows in the torrent (incl. Win NT4 fork OpenNT!)... Anything that's missing from XP could probably be pieced together by using code from the other versions. Drivers could probably be taken from ReactOS etc.
