I Was a Teenage Werewolf hasn't been released on DVD. It's included in bsg4you's VHS set.

Forgive my ignorance, but if something is on the Archive, doesn't that mean it's public domain? Didn't MST3K exist in the first place because the movies they riffed were essentially free, and by extension anyone who uses them does so under some kind of "Creative Commons" type of legal agreement wherein they lose the right to copyright claim their work even if their work is a parody? Sorry again if I'm uninformed, but I'm surprised to see these taken off the Archive, especially before I got a chance to grab them.

No. Anyone can upload anything to the Internet Archive and copyrighted work is constantly taken down. Something being on the Internet Archive has nothing to do with its status as being in the public domain. Often, it just means it's so old that the copyright holder doesn't know or care that it's there, that the copyright has shifted around enough times that no one's entirely sure who owns it, or no one's gotten around to finding and removing it yet because people are trying to use it like a pirate file locker site.

No. MST3K rarely used public domain films. Mostly, they were using whatever was available to license for broadcast at the lowest possible rate during that time period. They'd go through stacks of cheap movies that could be licensed for a minimal amount to find something usable for their purpose, never intending it for rebroadcast, much less video release or being available on the internet. While most movies have worked out rights for DVD releases, there are still some episodes that will never be released after their TV broadcasts because the rightsholders have no interest in licensing them for release or want far too much money to be worthwhile. But in pretty much all cases, the movies are well within copyright and, aside from that, MST3K has its own copyright that is being violated by being placed on the Archive. Public domain and Creative Commons have nothing to do with each other and you don't lose the right to your own work by using something in the public domain to make it. Creative Commons didn't even exist during that time period and has to do with people not exercising their copyright and voluntarily allowing their work to be used by other people (with certain stipulations). Copyright has to be abandoned voluntarily, lost by being dead for a certain amount of time, or fall into a nebulous place where no one is sure at this point who owns it (usually through corporate bankruptcy and/or dissolution) and someone is willing to take the chance to get sued to try to use the neglected copyright.

Does anyone know if there's someplace where MST shorts are available to download individually?
