MST3K DVD Cleanup Project: ep302 Gamera

Hi, I'm wrapping up another unreleased episode that will probably be posted over the weekend, but in the meantime, I was uploading this file somewhere for a friend, I thought I would put it here too.

So, first off, Shout Factory's MST3k "Gamera" box set is out of print.  So it would probably be okay to just post a straight DVD rip.  But this is better than that, because the DVD has two flaws that mar an otherwise pretty good presentation.

#1 - there is a host segment where Mike Nelson appears as Gamera and gets a phone call from Godzilla.  Even though the sound effects aren't even real Godzilla sound effects, but are just similarish sounds, Shout Factory has muted all traces of sounds attributed to Godzilla.  The gag still kind of works, because there is a visual aspect, but the lack of the sound does hurt it a lot.

#2 - this is one of about 30-40 episodes where Shout trims footage in order to remove the non-bumper commercial break [usually somewhere around 55min to 1hr mark].  But it's one of only two or three where this results in a missing riff.  It's kind of Joel's fault; he keeps talking way into the black here, I bet this got cut off on TV all the time.

When I did this, in general I tried to do a quick pass looking for tape hits to clean up.  I don't remember any specific ones in this episode, but if there were, hopefully I fixed them!

Building off of the DVD base, several sources were used to reconstruct both the excised audio and the missing video in the best quality I can achieve, including DAP, archive.org, and the Youtube broadcast channel run by Kolos.

Custom chapter stops have been created based around host segments and commercial breaks.


Feel free to share these with other fans -- KEEP SPREADING THE TAPES and all that.  Just don't profit off it.
