The Elephant in the room!
Talking of skins. I like to use G3F base, add the standard G3F genital patch, which I find is really quite good nowadays, and then add the Character skin.
My question is, and it may be dumb, why is it some character skins quite happily include the Genital area and some don't?
Why do some character skins, when applied to a Highlighted genital, change it to the same skin texture as the rest of the body, and sometimes nothing seems to make that happen?
I get the feeling I missed the, "Basic use of Genital Morphs" course somewhere.
Hoping for advice

With Genesis 3, Daz finally answered a demand for more detailed Gens. As a result, the genitals no longer share a UV with the torso. Being it's own (and enlarged) UV means painting/texturing seamlessly across it is still pretty much a pain, even for people who do it all the time. Most of the maps that come with the genital map are built off of very few merchant resources, as once it does get accomplished, it's financially smart to try to reuse that one skin as many times as possible, with slight tints, new freckles, etc. See FWSA for a great example. Finley and Piper share pretty much the exact same skin with recolored eyebrows. If the vendor includes said genital textures, they'll apply either when you have the genitals selected, or if they are smart, with the figure selected. That requires saving as a hierarchical material preset instead of a material preset. Hierarchical literally meaning materials follow the hierarchy of the figure and children. Again, most of FWSA's are set up this way (the tooltips for the base mat state "Body+Genitalia"). Many (most) vendors still don't include them as most of the merchant resources don't include them, and very few vendors actually make their own skins from scratch, Lyoness being one that comes to mind, and not even her all the time. It's cheaper and faster, thus more profitable, to skip it.

As a personal pet peeve, Sabby Sublime in particular annoys me to no end. Several of their models (not in association with FW, their solo stuff), even pop up the error that the genital maps are missing on texture load, indicating that they existed at one point, but were just never freaking included with the damn characters. Also the fact they are quite possibly the worst of the "churn out the same skin with barely any re-texturing, with the same few generic nail colors, lip colors, and eye colors, and act like that couldn't be done by just about anyone who can copy and paste." They are also why when One of the two mentioned figures didn't have a particular thing I wanted, I just swapped the texture for it's twin from the other. I thought Skin maker for Gen 2 was bad, but at least most of the people who hacked out skins from it actually made some kinds of changes along the way.

I figure whenever I get my next bit of money together, I'm just going to get all the merchant resources I can manage. Might as well skip buying characters for skins that are all the same when I can just build my own to suit. I do love anything by Raiya though. I should probably have put that in the previous post. Those are generally the standard I compare everything else against. Still, I couldn't be much worse at it than the sameness already prevalent, right?

Although I haven't been able to Update to Reality 4.3, (I got some kind of glitch there), I understand there is now, what looks like an answer to the problem by copying the actual skin settings, and pasting it to the Genital area, thereby guaranteeing a match.
I guess I'll have to go down that path, if there is nothing else anyone can suggest.
Many Thanks

Yes, that is what I do.

It isn't 100% in some cases, but well within post work parameters 8)

I don't really have a favorite skin but I do prefer making skins with Skin Builder if I am doing any thing with Genesis or Genesis 2 Female but I have moved on to Genesis 3. I wish there was a Skin Builder for it.

Woa Skin builder looks cool.

I look out for details in the skin that bring realism not just a plain skin painted all over. Some details:

Dark shades over knees, elbows etc
Shading at sole of feet
details like vascularity and or bumps (the addon vascularity bundle is okay)

V4 Lana Elite, Danae's Milan and DT Natasha hit those requirements pretty much.
