John Paul Stevens: Repeal the Second Amendment

Maybe only WW3 can repair all this junk, I wouldn't count on new generations, they are too weak and pre-programmed to act as gov want.

That is, if there will be someone left after third to make the fourth WW.
Maybe the third will be the end of humanity.
Maybe we will live long enough to see it, with the tech and amount of explosives we have we could destroy earth many times.

I bet americans will still fight for their right to own sticks.

BTW, found out that USA is already putting tax on fat people, indirectly like by putting higher/additional tax on soda drinks with high sugar content.
sorry for the off-top.

Off topic, but robots will kill us all.

Also off topic, consumption taxes for something you choose to buy is very different than taxing people based on physical characteristics. You can simply stop buying soda.

The US has a huge population and a much weaker welfare state so people are often poor and driven by desperation to commit crimes. There is also a cultural problem of violence being glorified in the US.

Look at all the money we spend on our absurdly large military to maintain our global empire.  You're right society needs to change. That will only happen from the grassroots. I think when the older generation dies it will move things along as well in terms of social progress.

> We are all animals in the end. But I understand we can be better given good basic conditions and qualified education (not only know-how).
But instead, the money that could've made U.S.A. the center of the world goes to the DoD budget and is in huge part spent bribing or breaking the other countries - To fight communism, terrorism, drugs, wars on the other side of the world... but never reinvested.

> Military budgets have a great chance of being faked or at least classified, making them the best way to embelezze. How can they invest in Asia while the fellow americans get poor schools, bad food, no health care and end up living out of credit ?

The pig-tax money and money saved on medical treatment could be then invested in more police patrols on the streets and more training.

> First, I believe there's not much money to be saved with that scheme, mostly because public health funds are minimal, all is private with "plans".
The money would come almost entirely from the fat tax alone. And by what I know of U.S.A. governments, they won't help much.

> Even if that could work, after some time the pigsos would lose weight, thus escaping the pig-tax and the "pigs" (cops) would be without trainning and control.

> Also, eating less doesn't solve obesity, they need to eat better. Processed food, oil fried meals, wheat, sugar, the couch and TV... Better quality life costs a lot... The government would likely need to reshape the entire nutrition chain, regulate restaurants and change the work schedule in order for people to have proper pay, rest, meals, exercises and all... That would be very like a domestic Marshall Plan and ultra-likely seem as communism - The only thing americans fear and despise more than the Plague.

But THIS:

Gotta stop.

> Great picture! Sexy supressor, but that gun is nearly useless for practical use. The kind that has no place in Common Joe's hands.

* As for the confiscation of guns, I think not many people would use a gun with a sentence of 10-15 years of prison for not having license, just make the law better.

> U.S.A. is already the most incarcerating country, that would put more than half the population in prison and, as many law and sociology teachers agree, you can punish but can't re-educate and re-integrate one into society with too long prison terms. Of course, recurring cases are to be dealt with some force.

I had couple unlicensed guns in my past and cut them to pieces after some time because law in my country is very harsh for people without license and I just couldn't sleep with that "jail" thought in my mind.
So I think many would hand over their guns, if not - they would surely not walk with it with law like this, especially with the increased patrols and random checks.

> Maybe, but as I said, criminals will do what they always did. Here the only people without guns are the honest ones. Also there's risk of a Second Sessetion. I can't forget Charlton Heston in the NRA convention saying "From my cold dead fingers!"

I believe the government will make another meaningless law like the one that resulted the AR-15 being sold as a pistol or shunning the Glock .380 (a less lethal caliber) from the imports list. In time, they will request medical exams and backgrounds...

Btw, anyone selling a M-62 ?  I wan't to hunt squirrels on my backyard. Tongue
