I was reading that the old TVs had a slightly hypnotic effect and I'm curious to experience it.

Jeez, most results I found were how to FIX stuff like that.

Best I can do was find a YouTube video hooking up a computer to an old TV. I believe this may be what you are getting at???

This is a real needle in a haystack.   I imagined that someone would have created something by now that could make a computer screen flicker like an old tv.

But hey... Thanks for trying to help

Oh and I don't actually own a TV so I won't be trying to hook up a computer to one.  Sad

As far as a program you can run on your computer to emulate and old TV? I'm not aware of one, but you never know.

I just want that refresh rate / flicker.

You would probably have more luck finding an old CRT computer monitor than an old TV. It'll also be easier to hook up to your computer than a TV.

The CRT browser experience.

Change website in the HTML window.
If you get an error about x-frame-options, install a suitable browser addon.

My CRT TV doesn't flicker so much though.
Sorry. not selling it. :-)

PS: Maybe someone can create a CSS stylesheet for general use.

If memory serves right the flicker came from the 30Hz screen refresh that was composed of 2 *interlaced* 60Hz frames .

See if your video card will go down to 30Hz.

Or else get a big old game and the the resolution high enough so that your card can only handle 30Hz.

But without the interlacing it might not be the same.

This might help:

Be aware:
Newer digital TV shows might not have the traditional interlacing effect. They stopped broadcasting standard analog.
What might work are old VCR tapes, with Audio/Video cables going to an old Video Tuner and Sound card.

Also note: 60HZ is not considered healthy, and known to cause headaches. That is why most monitors are set to 70Hz these days.

A large part of the flicker comes from the fact that a CRT is only drawing one line at a time, or in the case of interlacing, is only drawing every other line.

So, unlike a modern flat panel where the entire screen is lit all the time, a CRT is only lighting a small fraction of the screen and relies on the residual glow to hold over until the next refresh.
