Like yeah the torrents should absolutely be seeded but that wouldn't help the community stay connected.
When the servers go down, there's not much to be done on the user level. We've seen the messages from the admin / owners regarding what is happening when things go wrong. Not sure what can ever be done about a "community", but I'd surmise most users here are concerned with the file sharing, and torrents help that situation. Personally, I enjoy the Rifftrax movies, less the social media aspect of the site....
I like both. Having access to the files is great, but the community aspect helps you find good stuff you didn't know, solve technical issues, shares experiences and such.

I would be lost without this board. Where else would I be in touch with people doing MST remasters and sharing full versions of the movies that RiffTrax cuts 20 minutes from?

Just a heads up - idope.se is an old backup of KAT. There's some Rifftrax there, but registrations don't seem to work. Uploading everything from here to torrents would help a lot, but PB etc seem to have shutdown registrations too. Not sure why all the biggest torrent sites are screwing around with registrations, but if anyone knows for a place to upload torrents, these webspider sites will eventually pick them up.

I'm sure there's good reasons why this material isn't just posted to the bigger, more public sites like TGx or 1337x... but I'm not privy to them. The more heads we give this hydra, the less likely they are to all be chopped off at once.

It would be easiest if TPB would just accept new accounts. Does anyone have any info on what the problem is with that? Is it intentional, or has it just been broken for ages?

My guess would be all the scammers. I remember I'd search for something, find it posted by an account created just within the past day or so, and when I click on their name see lots of other popular torrents also all created at the same time. So clearly fakes/scammers. They probably got tired of fighting them all the time.

I've been using Pirate Bay for more than a decade and never seen it open to new accounts. I'm a member in good standing of a half dozen private torrent sites and have been for years but I've never found any public torrent site that I could upload torrent files to and since the private torrent sites specialize in specific types of materials and generally can't be accessed without an existing membership that usually requires an invitation from another member in good standing they aren't appropriate for the types of materials that are uploaded here. In terms of uploading I don't know of any public torrent sites that members here including myself could upload movies to. Handy and myself were looking for a public torrent site alternative to MEGA and found nothing. Handy, myself, and Rowsdower have been using Resillio to share some stuff but it's a pain in the ass to set up, the software is buggy and no longer actively updated, and it doesn't work very well unless multiple people are hosting the same file simultaneously. I never suggested trying to use it as an alternative to MEGA here because people in this forum already complain whenever they are supposed to use Pirate Bay instead of MEGA and getting people here to install special software on their computers and then keep hosting the custom video files after grabbing them for themselves would probably be impossible. I've only come across a couple of boards dedicated to fan edits that successfully use Resillio for hosting their videos. I've never come across a single board that was able to use public torrent sites to share movies. As far as I can tell only one active member in this community even has the ability to upload torrent files to Pirate Bay.

If you can find any public torrent site that the members here could upload files to I would be very surprised. Private torrent sites exist partly because it's nearly impossible for most people to get upload rights on public torrent sites.

Aside from all of that, I tend to tinker with my video files: re-organizing them, adding or updating the cover image, updating the metadata, tweaking the file name, and so on. Torrents, for good reason, are incompatible with all of that, much less the addition of new files.
I think there is a niche for a new type of p2p sharing protocol that allows such updates and additions to existing torrents, but I lack the technical know-how to even contemplate what it would look like. Maybe something based on git? Hell if I know.
I have hundreds of MST3K and RiffTrax video files that I would be happy to share, if there were a safe means to do so.

I've tried to find a practical solution but wasn't successful. Maybe someone with greater technical knowledge can put something together or suggest an existing program or service that would work. Having no alternative when this board goes down again which is beginning to seem inevitable sucks. I really like having access to the Rifftrax upgrades that get posted here. If the board goes down again when Rifftrax releases their Just the Jokes audio for the Top Gun sequel it's going to be really difficult for most people on here to find a copy of the video with the Rifftrax synced. Using the official app isn't practical for a lot of people.

I think a discord channel would be ideal. We could post megasync links on there I believe and be able to freely communicate. However setting one up is above my paygrade.
