i doubt that it's illegal in iran.

You are technically right in Iran what they are doing is legal because copyright laws are different over there but my point still stands.

not technically, more like absolutely.

anyway:

just to make sure we are all on the same page here, what was your point?

My point was that I'm pretty sure in the majority of places these kinds of dubs and the way they are going about it are illegal because they most likely didn't get the rights to do these.

Don't know about local regulations, guessing "tolerated" would be more like it. Like fake branded watches are sold in many busy streets around the world.

Legal or not, moral question: If rights holder doesn't care to a certain niche (a country in case), is it wrong to make do as they are excluded?
I understand people used to make translated copies of books in old times, and still today; I make annotated clippings of stuff I find around the Internet all the time. Why not entertainment?

Or is it due US embargo? If so, there's room for international legal proceeding - If Iran would consider that, and I'm betting they don't give a sand for UN; they'd be already embargoed, what worse could be?

Perhaps renhoek93 is scared to do something like that.

I think that's his difficulty; he has cold feet.

From what i have seen there are many different versions done by different studios and they are each aired on different channels even movies like Toy Story have 3 or 4 different versions of them in Persian.

Below are clips of different versions.

The issue is to know if they are licensed to broadcast (syndicated) - If yes, maybe the owners would just let the studios make their own translations. It happened a lot in South America decades ago and still happens, just a little less because local production became real, while in the past almost everything aired was imported. Or, as said before, the owners just make a blind eye about the dubbings.

Worst case scenario is they're totally non-authorized, but I wouldn't know. As this is a sharing site, most of us have no contact with studios, MPAA, lawyers, etc.

Iran is one of the poorest nations thanks to US policies. No surprise that locals dub available content for the local market given the people speak a language not widely known elsewhere.

Not a lot of TV channels in Iran either. Country is a basket case with no hope of recovery.

Good point i don't think a bunch of pirates and file sharers on the internet have any sort of contact with studios given that they dislike us LMFAO. Big Grin

The country's  government doesn't like any outside influence which is why in a lot of middle eastern countries there is a lot of copyright infringement that goes on and you see a lot of bootleg/counterfeit products and unlicensed stuff like this. Before the official Arabic dub of SpongeBob by Nickelodeon was released in Arabic speaking countries around 2005-2006 there was a illegal dub of the early episodes that aired on a channel called the Mickey channel in Egypt some of the editing choices they made in this are hilarious.  Big Grin
