I need instructions step by step on how to put subtitles on my movies

It would be easier to help u if u provided more info

1. Which program do u use to play the movies?
2. Do u already have the subtitles? (Downloaded)
If not which lang subs do u need

Heres the one for vlc

no I dont use vlc. I need one for mp4.

Mp4 is an extension.. u really need to provide some more info.. do u want to burn them on a dvd? Or play them on ur pc/laptop if on pc/laptop then please reply to my previous questions

Well, if you're running Video LAN player, or using K-Lite Codec packs (with DirectVOBSub installed), all you need to do is to download the subtitle (usually in the form of SRT files), change the name of either the video or the subtitle so that it matches with each other.

When you play the video, just select the subtitle and you're all set.

How do you use on a TV? Most of the files I have with additional subtitle files are mp4. I watch my movies through a Kaiser Baas media player.
