How to avoid xvid codec
#1
I have always enjoyed downloading movies, putting them on a USB stick and playing them on my TV.  I am a simple man.  Now most of the current movies require this Xvid codec thing. How do I avoid this?  Can I somehow convert my videos requiring this?  Please help.  Thank you.

Uhm, Xvid was standard 10 years ago, and supported by most TVs and dvd players. The standard today is h.264. What is your tv model and what is the exact error message you are getting?

https://ffmpeg.org/ will cover all your conversion needs, but you might consider hooking a small laptop or similar to your tv via hdmi to completely avoid any future codec confusion

When I download Top Gun Maverick from TPB a screen pops up saying “XviD Codec may be required to view video Check Readme.txt for download and install” The readme writes as follows:

Movies and series available only to registered members. Sign up into your account for Free!

Enjoy Thanks!

I hesitate to do this since I worry about picking up a virus. The same occurs with Mission Impossible 7. This occurs in Windows and using VLC media player.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

You are downloading fakes.

That particular movie doesn't come out until next summer, so all you are going to find are fakes.

Moe, thanks that never occurred to me.  I appreciate your answer!

Happy to help.

Anything requiring an additional codec download is almost certain to be fake.

Soon to be released titles are popular bait. If in doubt, look up the release date to confirm. Leaks do happen, and when they do, you'll find them shared by popular uploaders with a trusted or VIP skull.

Don't click the links. Always report fake torrents.
