How to add magnet link support to Tor Browser
#1
Hi everyone.

How to add magnet link support to Tor Browser:

1.) In the location bar, type about:config. Press enter.

2.) Right-click in the space and select New - Boolean.

3.) Copy/paste the following for the preference name:

network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet

4.) Set the value to False.

5.) Right-click in the space and select New - Boolean.

6.) Copy/paste the following for the preference name:

network.protocol-handler.external.magnet

7.) Set the value to True.

8.) When you select on a magnet link, a box will open asking you which application to use for magnet links. Browse to find the application. Don't just select a filesharing client if it is shown. Sometimes, that doesn't work.

For Windows, the location would be, for example:

C:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe

For Linux, the location would be, for example:

/usr/bin/qBittorrent

9.) Once you have selected your application, make sure to click the box next to "Remember my choice for magnet links."

10.) Click OK.

The solution should work immediately, but if it doesn't, try restarting the browser.

for those who don't know yet, the address has changed to http://piratebayztemzmv.onion/ as it appears on each forum page footer.

I feel that I should add some information to this thread to clear up any confusion some may have about using magnets links with TOR and TOR Browser.

I intended the information to serve as a backup in the event that The Pirate Bay's main site might become inaccessible. Users could then fallback to the TOR address with TOR browser.

Normally, one should just use Firefox through a VPN, visiting the main site, to access magnet links for your bittorrent client.
