HideMyAss is now pay site: where to get "proxy server"?
#1
It was commonly advised at Demonoid to regularly update your BitTorrent "proxy server" settings (Preferences > Connection > Proxy Server). The simplest way seemed to always be trusty ol' HideMyAss.com....but they're now a pay site.

Does anybody know of any other sites to get proxy IP addresses?

Just ask Google.
I would never torrent from a proxies, First there to slow. Second most proxies are shared and you will be hogging up all the bandwidth.
third, Proxies get shut down everyday whom ever owns the IP shuts the door on public traffic.
And fourth. Most proxies are not vary safe, Its like tying to hide behind a piece of paper. Just a little work and you ip is visible.

I never observed any slowdown at all when using a proxy, so if there was any bandwidth hogging, I never saw any sign of it.

Yeah, I know they get shut down, and that's why the advice was to update them regularly.

And if they don't help out, then why does the Torrent program offer them?

It is unlikely your client was actually using the proxy at all, which is why you didn't notice any slowdowns.

Most proxies our there only support HTTP/HTTPS.

You would have to find a proxy supporting HTTP CONNECT.

If it is critical to use a proxy, then you would probably be better served by a VPN.

Hmm. So then you also wouldn't really suggest using a proxy?

Not really.

You will never find a reliable free proxy that you will be able to use for bittorrent.

You won't find a reliable free anything for that matter.

Hey, BitTorrent and open source software has demonstrated the complete opposite!

Yea, that statement is a bit broad without context.

It was in reference to proxies/vpns and similar services relevant to this thread.

Ah, I see. Well, I'll defer to your judgment in that arena, then, because I'm not too knowledgeable (which is why I'm asking, of course).
