Help identify this song.
#1
I woke up with an earworm this morning and it's driving me mad because I don't know either the song title or the artist. I don't even particularly like the song, but I can't rest until I know what it is.

It's fairly recent, is sung by a man, is quite depressing and guitary, and the lyrics possibly go something like this:

'All the mice are dead indeed,
flower curiousity and 'magination.'

That's all I have. I used to think Stevie Wonder sang 'very superstitious, mary's on the wall' in his song Superstition, and because I have a tendency to make up the words where there are blanks, I could be miles off, but I know for definite the 'magination' part is definitely in there.

Given how little information I've provided, it'd be amazing if anyone manages to identify it, but any help/guesses would be appreciated. Smile

Did you hear it on the radio, (if so, the states, Europe) Was it just playing out in a store somewhere?

I never listen to the radio at home and must have heard it in a shop. Most commercial radio stations in England that I know of, play popular current stuff so I'm guessing it's a recent release.

I've been singing the same little bit over and over, and while I was at work, realised I'd got a couple of words wrong, so my ammended sole line that I know of, is:

'All the trees are dead and gone,
something something ordinary 'magination.'

^^I know now the song has nothing to do with mice, but I don't think it's trees either, the one part I can say for certainty that is right, is the last 2 words - 'ordinary magination' (although it could be ordinary imagination). I'd describe the genre as pop/indie, and the song is slow enough for a crowd to wave their cigarette lighters in the air at a gig.

I even googled 'songs with the words "ordinary imagination" in them,' and found this lyric search tool, but found no exact matches for 'ordinary imagination.' Watching youtube videos of the UK Top 40 Singles Chart provided no answers either. I think it's one of those songs that you're either familiar with, or not, so I'll just have to hope that someone has heard it, and knows it well enough by title. All I want to do is identify it so it can be purged from my fragile little brain, and maybe then I can move on with my life. Big Grin

Man.... I can so relate to your predicament. Happens to me too with all the music I listen to. I'll spend the rest of today trying to unearth it and help you...

Male or female voice?

Definitely a male. That much I do know. Big Grin

Thanks for trying to help out with this one, it's very much appreciated.

I'd like to report that I have an answer for you but no man..... I came up empty.

It may be a longshot, but this is the only song that came up in my search.

Thanks but that's not the song that's burrowed in my brain (nice tune though), although I really do appreciate your help. I'm sure I'll hear the song again one day, and when I do, I'll stay put until the DJ states the artist or title. Until then, it'll just have to continue niggling my numbskulls. Thanks again, both of you.

here's another long shot, but its got "trees" and "ordinary":

It's not that one unfortunately, and one thing I will add is that certain male singers, like Bono, Sting, Jack White, Prince etc, all have very distinctive and instantly recognisable voices, and the voice in the song I'm trying to identify is one I've never heard before. I realise that doesn't help at all really but I sure do appreciate everyone's help and effort.
