Before Game of Thrones, I actually followed Burn Notice season one in that way. But yeah, it is rare.

I followed Boardwalk Empire for two shows before giving up and waiting till the end of the year . . . then I wished I had just skipped it entirely. Tongue

I think GoT is so popular as a show because of entirely different reasons than why it is popular as a book series. Obviously (and to much criticism) the show has a lot of gratuitous nudity-- but for those who have read the books, it is not out of place or forced. The books themselves are rather gritty in that way.

I don't think it's nudity which makes it popular. Porn is so readily available now that anyone who wants can see as much of that as they want any time they want.

I think it does what good fantasy/science fiction does best: it captures/reflects the zeitgeist and safely explores it in an other world setting. The masses today are more politically aware than ever: many of them understand that the people in power are almost universally self-serving and squabbling continually amongst themselves with no regard whatsoever for the people whose lives they affect ie. us.

It's popular because people recognise it is more realistic than most of what else is out there: "reality" shows, police shows where every murder is solved, medical shows where everyone is cured, etc.

I never watched GoTH, is it worth it ?
I like TheWalkingDead, BreakingBad, DesperateHousewifes, Doctor Who (except for 10th doctor),
hate fantasy thought, haven't watched harry potter and narnia, tryed, and can't

reading that thing:

Quote:Interestingly enough, we also learned this year that the huge number of unauthorized downloads don’t bother the show’s makers all that much, quite the contrary. Game of Thrones director David Petrarca previously admitted that piracy generated much-needed “cultural buzz” around his show.

Quote:Jeff Bewkes, CEO of HBO’s parent company Time Warner, went even further, stating that piracy resulted in more subscriptions for his company and that receiving the title of “most-pirated” was “better than an Emmy.”

You can always try to watch the first episode or two and then decide for yourself. Only you can decide what you like :-)

I love HP, Chronicles of Narnia. But I liked Desperate Housewives too (whatever little I watched). So there's no telling. Give it a shot. Try the books too. Maybe they'd encourage you to watch it or atleast give you an idea if you'd like it or not.
Also, it is possible one may develop a liking for a book/movie at a later point in time (in one's life).
There is always room for "acquired taste" :-)

I read harry potter, nice as a book not as a movie,
read lord of the rings, movie is better, still not a big fan
read hobbit, same as movie, not much a fan
I even read tween peaks, not worth it
read bunch of steven king, and watched bunch
of movies, looks like he one of those authors
whose books can't be made into an interesting movie
one need to read books, like "misery", its awesome to read
or also read entire series of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
all books really worth to read, tryed watch the movie, didn't liked

no "acquired taste" after all

wait, remembered it just now
"I am legend", really liked it, both book and the movie,
its because they different, and book has
good story and movie has good special effects,
since that really liked post-apocalyptic genre,
even read "The Day of the Triffids" quite good,
but thats a rare case,
one can also compare "I robot" book and movie
but the book and the movie in both cases
differ a lot

The lord of the rings book is better than the movies. The hobbit book has nothing in common with the movies, only the name. TLOTR movies change a lot of things, always getting things worse. The silmarillion would be a great movie, Fëanor is better than superman and Túrin Turambar is the batman-type. Eärendil story is great too. In fact, a TV show could be made just with this book.
Dragonlance are good books too for a TV show.
I always thought that Asimov's Foundation series would be a great trilogy.
