Fluctuations with transfer between PC to PC over LAN
#1
Hi, i have a router and i use two ethernet cables to connect two pcs to the router, to do some file transferring.

Yesterday i was getting 10-12MB/s (which is round about 100Mbps, which is kind of the max for me at the moment)

Now im doing the exact same file transfer (since i couldnt finish it yesterday) and im getting between 0.5-1.5MB/s. Whats going on?

Can you tell us more about the two computers that you are using for the transfer?

Can you also tell us more about the operating systems that you are using for the transfer?

You told us you are using a router, that means you are not using crossover cables. We know that much.

If one of your computers ha Windows 7, and the other one Windows XP or lower, you will experience lag when trying to access Windows 7 with XP. If vice-versa, not the case. If you are using Linux to access Windows 7's shares, and vice-versa, then it should go quick.

Hope this helps.

Well, i did some transferring this morning and i got a constant 11.3MB/s which is pretty decent.
Both are Windows 7 Professional machines, and the Duplex settings are both exactly the same.
I know that i have a 5400rpm harddrive (Toshiba) which is kind of a bottleneck, but im hoping to get Western Digitals 10000rpm soon.
