I think this was my exact situation too!  My early MST memories are jumbled because I didn't have Comedy Central, but knew about the show.  After renting the movie when it came out on VHS, a buddy circulated a tape that had Pod People, Giant Gila Monster, and Beginning of the End.  Thank God for EP tape mode.

I vividly remember visiting relatives in Florida and they had Comedy Central (which hadn't hit where I live yet) and it was The Girl In Lover's Lane. And the only reason it's so vivid was because of Jack Elam.
Not Jack LaLanne.

I lost my shit when Crow did his Jack cosplay during the host segment.
"I'm Jack Elam. Eeeuuughhhh."

I used to work the graveyard shift with the postal service from 11pm to around 8am. But sometimes if work ended up slow they would let us leave early. So early Saturday morning, it was freezing and there was ice on the road, I got out early and went home. I went into my room, closed the door and turned on the tv. I had left it on the scifi channel before I left so it was still on there. there was a black and white movie on. I didn't know what it was. I wasn't really paying attention because I was just trying to get the bed ready for me to go to sleep. I finally laid down in my dark room, under the covers, and that's when I heard the riff "help us, NBC is after us. Hide us!". I was confused because I didn't know who had said that. then I realized the silhouettes of Mike and the Bots. I saw the peacocks and I got the riff and started to laugh. So I just kept watching. After looking at the menu on the tv, that movie was 'The Screaming Skull'. During the show they aired a commercial for Mst3k showing that it would air later on that day at 7pm. I was hooked. I tuned it at 7pm and they aired The Screaming Skull again. this time I caught it from the starts and understood the show a little better. At least this time I also got to see Robot Rumpus. Sadly this was the last season and it was going to be over soon. but then I found MSt3k the Movie at a video store. From that point forward I went online and found and downloaded every episode they ever made.

first time i ever saw MST3K was in Minneapolis vising in '93 and it was on public access cable i think...obviously Joel back then. can't remember the episode but really thought it was pretty wacky and great. didn't catch it again until '94 when i roomed in college with a buddy that had comedy central and he recorded on tape a bunch of episodes. binged on those and then started catching the airings on CC. i remember when Mike showed up and i actually didn't like him at first - what an idiot i was! lol. been watching ever since...

I tuned in late to "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" when it was first aired on Comedy Central. I tuned in just as the lead Martian in his helmet and cape, marches into a room and stands arms akimbo, looking very thoughtful as he observed the situation or something.

Someone, I think Crow, said, "meanwhile, over at Oscar Wilde's house..." and I nearly wet myself. I was hooked. My first FULL episode was "Village of the Giants" and yes, I still use that stupid music for the slow-motion dancing as a ringtone.
