How can you file share without getting caught, I know there's gotta be a way. Are you really hidden if you use a VPN?

the effectiveness of utilizing a vpn depends entirely on their terms of service agreement.

With "Getting caught" you're trying to scare people methinks. I don't know if you're aware of this, but different countries have different laws, so what's illegal in one country can be legal in another, shocking.
VPN can be secure? Yes
Is it necessary? No
I've used bittorrent for many years without any problem at all, without VPN or proxies or anything at all. For those who are citizens of the Empire, you can pay for a VPN, or not to, it doesn't really matters. But you're free to be afraid (or an obnoxious prick).

I live in the us, and I was contacted before I started using a VPN, but I just don't know if I'm safe using that or just not download at all

If you can, the easiest way to share large files with friends is when you're near their computer, but that's not always an option. Rolleyes

k, lemme give you guys a run down as best i can without fucking up:

vpn services are pretty neat. they can help you keep your personal activities just that... personal.

like any service you sign up for, vpn services come with a terms of service agreement. you need to fully read that agreement and understand it. for example, a lot of the services say that they will comply with legal requests from local authorities.

basically, what they are saying is that if they are located in... say... the united states and the united states government wants to know who you are, they will comply with that request and snitch on you. they have no choice.

so, what you can do is use a vpn that is located in a country other than your own that has a reputation of not giving a damn when your government wants them to cooperate.

so... yes, when chosen wisely, vpn services are very reliable.
