Dry Loop
#1
A few months ago, I signed up for VOIP and cancelled my land line.

Now, approximately a few months later, I'm stuck with an Internet connection that fluctuates.

Now I hear that I have to sign up for dry loop to stabilise my Internet connection.

What's the advantage of using dry loop that I won't have with a traditional land line?

There is no advantage. There is nothing about a dry loop that will "stabilize" the internet connection. Anyone saying otherwise is spouting BS.

If the problem is the physical lines, then nothing will change. If the problem is the provider, then this will allow you to get service from someone else.

Then is it true that I will require either a phone line or dry loop and not neither?

It is true you require an internet connection. It may not be true that you require a phone line. There are numerous mediums that can be used to create an internet connection.

If cable, cellular, wifi, satellite, or whatever else aren't options, then you are stuck with using the telephone line.

I think its just a dry pair of copper to the CO, same thing they use for a phone line.
