Personally, I don't even like it that we accept donations. But at least the current links are unobtrusive. I would hate it if TPB went into full on beg mode.
As for giving people extra privileges if they gave us money? I would walk away if that ever happened. It's already painful having to deal with "VIP's" who consider that they can do no wrong because they are VIP's and that their status is sacrosanct. If they had actually paid for their status they would become even harder to deal with.
But merchandising, with TPB getting a cut of the money? I've always liked that idea. I don't know why we stopped doing that.
Agree with Sid...
AS much as we hate corruption in politics, once people can give money, they'll want feel entitled to special treatment in return.
Also, the essence of TPB (getting things for free), and the theme of sharing is caring, will be skewed. It'll be "sharing is caring, but paying would really be caring". Plus, if most people had the $$ to blow, why wouldn't they just buy legit copies of shit.
People complain about the ads, but it's what is currently helping support the function of the site. There is a possibility of generating more issues if we rely on monetary donations...
If it's not broke, don't fix it... It's coming up on 15 years with no issues. People should still be able to make donations, just not in the form of money... Donate your smarts, time, by helping out, or continue to upload stuff...
If you want to donate money, go out and buy a program that TPB doesn't have, and upload it if possible.

Well, that's the point I have created this suggestion, as it seems broke.
Also I noted that I don't know the real issue, only the "higher power" knows what's going on.
So if it's not $$$ problem, I 101% agree with you, that the best way for helping is to use it as it meant to be and let it live and get stronger in it's natural environment as it has in the past.
World is changing, sometimes we have to change as well whether we like it or not.

Oh please, know that I'm talking from a point of ignorance... I only assume the main issue discussed was money. That's why I kinda disagreed. I thought the main issues (in my mind) were things like idiots uploading viruses, TPB finally succumbing to a gov't entity and getting shut down, etc... I didn't see money as being an issue. But you may be right. I'm just speaking from my limited view of things.
If it was/is, and the ads are not sufficing, my only monetary suggestion would be an across the board membership fee... No more, no less than other users... This will generate $$ and no one would feel more than anyone else....
From rumors I heard about this Winston guy... Any additional monies made would probably be spent on booze

In old times people used P.O. boxes. I'm sure there're modern solutions, 3rd party being one:
TPB sales branch will take orders and get paid with virtual currency in multiple layers,
forward to the guys investing in production, stocking, sales and shipping, who will get a cut,
they will forward to another partner handling delivery,
parcel comes to your door or P.O. box.
No way to link who paid for what but tracking "sale order - stock dispatch - delivery run"; database will be held by TPB only, on a self-destructive memory module.
Yet is possible to just monitor (or just follow) the delivery service and track the parcels, people, etc.
To avoid value tracking, TPB should only make random sub-total payments, wich means the merchandising investors would have a relatively high turn over, and so the delivery partner.
I don't think RIAA or whoever has great interest on the downloaders or even the uploaders themselves so far. They have systematically attacked the sites and pushed ISPs and governments into banning the torrent traffic itself.

No hard feelings to anyone disagreeing here, we are only discussing pros and cons, and every method/solution to any problem got both of them. Otherwise world would be perfect.
#1 Enemy will always be government true masters that puppeteer it for it's benefits, other problems like fakers/spammers are not really problems in this terms, only cheap obstacles that we are fighting with no problem.
As of multiple layers for merchandise, I can tell from similar real world experience that the more people know/ the more people are involved - the greater chance of shit hitting the fan.
The easiest methods are the best, unfortunately they are the hardest to come up with.
yeah that Winston... I bet he watch 3D porn on the TPB hosting servers, that's why we're getting 404/5xx....

I was talking about that when I started here, ways to survive the evolution, becomming more professional and close to the public, but it was not very popular.
But what about the next 100 years? Just disrupting won't do; in simple terms a fire must spread or it ceases, the © industry wins.
They can even wait for the torrent guys to become too old. Not sure if younger guys will want to go thru the same things and, worse, the next things.
* And Android games suck *

I like the touching idea, really, but wars are won with money, and our hobby is disruptive of greedy, powerful peoples' business not to mention authority.
I was taught in school that either you grow enough to play with the tigers, or you will end food; can't run or hide forever.
Oh well, that last one seems to be unsolvable and deterrent of other solutions as well.
Logic dictates the next guys in line should take it uppon themselves and find their own new ways.

Just make an anonimous donation system - No golden skulls, no names, no records.
Paying is caring! We buy food and shelter for our kids as our parents did for us; we donate to friends, politicians and church (not me) or for whatever we care for.

This excalated quickly, think we all agreed on not giving ppl ranks for money.
This thread is a suggestion for tpb to make "more" money then it does now. OP never mentioned removing the ads or w.e
And donation anonimously is already possible dueda

But i guess the suggested merchandise is not an option?

Didn't mentioned removing ads as I created this thread in concern that TPB does not have enough of $$$ to sustain this high requirement site.
As lot of traffic does not always equal lot of money, especially on sites that don't go along with certain laws.
