Well, I did got a response from the guys at the Rifftrax Patreon....

Quote:Hey (Real name retract)! Sorry, this message seems to have slipped through the cracks. Right now it's still a bit too early to say - we may still do a limited Kickstarter campaign but we're not quite sure what it will look like. We're going to be discussing it a bit more in the new year.

Stay safe out there!

So there may be a campaign next year. Keep your fingers cross.

Anti-"woke" internet trolls belatedly decided they hated Thor Ragnarok--maybe they also turned on Wonder Woman.  One of their favorite activities is to post the lowest possible rating for movies they've never actually seen--often before the movies even come out.  Rotten Tomatoes had to change their rating rules because there were thousands of bad ratings posted for Captain Marvel before the movie was released.  There were also tons of negative ratings posted on IMDB for last year's Charlie's Angels and Black Christmas by opening day.  I'm not saying the 5.8 IMDB score is necessarily manipulated but superhero movie fans are notoriously easy graders--both Catwoman and Green Lantern got B+ Cinemascores which were higher than the scores for The Conjuring and Cabin in the Woods.

Anti-"woke"?  HAHAHAHA!  You do know that people can dislike casting choices before the movie is released, right? The fact that two re-makes got bad ratings before they were released speaks more to people finally saying "enough!" to Hollywood's utter lack of artistic integrity, than it does to being anti-woke. Perhaps if Hollywood stopped making endless re-makes and sequels, there would be less of those types of ratings.  After all, nobody inundates films that aren't remakes or sequels ~ do they?  Oh, except for the "woke" pc thugs who scream about films with an actor that said something "mean" about someone...

Anti-woke has nothing to do with disliking casting choices--it's about hating movies with a perceived female empowerment message that threatens their sad little egos.  The very loud minority backlash against Paul Feig's announcement that phase 2 Marvel Films would focus more on female heroes had nothing to which actors were going to be cast to play those parts.  As long as any movie is perceived as being "woke" trolls reflexively organize online attacks by posting fake viewer ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB, and other sites and by disseminating completely fake Hollywood insider news on YouTube and in blogs with the hope of making these films fail and create the perception that audiences don't want to see these movies and don't like them.  Before the new Chloe Grace Moretz movie Shadow in the Cloud opened Friday it had already received low ratings from more than 2,000 people that could not possibly have seen it since the only screening was at the Toronto Film Festival where the movie was extremely well-received by audiences.  There is no legitimate excuse for people to post viewer ratings for movies they haven't seen.

I think you must mean Kevin Fiege.

The problem with being "woke" is it being seen solely as a pose, as something for smug virtue-signalers alone. Well, doubtless this is the case, but not solely. Ryan Reynolds, for example, tweeted recently about how the documentary about transgender representation in the film industry, "Disclosure" really opened his eyes.

Forgive the pun, but it doesn't have to be binary; wokeness doesn't have to be either entirely genuine or entirely pose. I never doubt the attraction of some to be hip, anymore than I do the temptation to be super-hip by ridiculing the hip. As Oscar Wilde said of the avant-garde one could say of this: it's the one thing that never changes.

Still, wokeness or learning or reevaluation are possible and have always existed. And such cognitive and empathetic changes can be quite beneficial to oneself and one's society. Beware of smugness? Sure. But beware of anti-smugness, if all it turns out to be (ironically?) is exactly what it's attacking: just another pose.

The problem with Hollywood these days, and it isn't just Hollywood, is that they are terrified. They don't really give a damn about this woke nonsense, they just want to make movies that make money and therefore, they listen to the loudest, most obnoxious voices online in hopes that will translate into ticket sales. It never does though. It's the same reason both Marvel and DC's sales crashed and burned when they tried it (and ultimately why comics like the New New Warriors, featuring Safe Space and Snowflake, got axed. These are things nobody actually wants, nobody who reads comics or watches movies anyhow. Eventually, everyone realizes that going woke means going broke because the people who are going to financially support their ventures aren't the ones whining online. But by the time anyone realizes this, anyone who hasn't been paying attention all along, it's too late and these companies have turned their media divisions over to crazy people who care more about pushing a political agenda than in making money. It's why Star Wars under Kathleen Kennedy went to hell. It's why Captain Marvel died a painful death, so badly that even Kevin Feige reportedly hates Brie Larson and wants to replace her in the role. She made a complete ass of herself and is getting the push back she deserves. People want to see good movies. They don't care about being woke. But the people on the far left, they really have no defense so the second anyone points out these are terrible movies, all they can do is stick their fingers in their ears and declare it all to be a vast conspiracy.

Nope. The movies just suck. Deal with it.

How can movies like Charlie's Angels, Black Christmas, Captain Marvel, and Shadow in the Clouds be seen as nothing more than "a pose" by people who have never seen the movies and have no intention of seeing the movies?  Every single one of these movies received thousands of negative viewer ratings before the movies were even released.  It's ridiculous to try and rationalize the idea that it's ok to post negative viewer ratings for a movie that you haven't actually viewed.  If you don't think you're going to like a movie then don't see the movie but posting a negative rating based entirely on personal prejudice for movies you haven't seen is not acceptable.  It's petty and pathetic.

It's sort of ironic that you decided you weren't going to like what knowMATTER wrote and, without reading it, replied to it. They were not defending the behavior you're talking about, literally no one here is.

It was released at a bad time while everyone's in a bad mood and after all the delays and there not being any comic book movies in awhile, people are just dumping on it because it's easier to dump on it than to just enjoy it.

People need to accept that not all movies were meant for them specifically.

I don't see why anyone would want to boot you just for having an opinion. I just don't agree with the opinion. For one thing, I liked both of the Ant-Man movies and IRON MAN 3 (I... simply tolerated THOR: THE DARK WORLD, which was terribly paced).

WONDER WOMAN 1984 is okay, but it too is horribly paced. The director did such a solid job with the first movie that I was expecting great things. Instead, in this sequel every shot suggested that she was in love with her own work. There were almost no scenes in the movie that wouldn't have benefited from being at least a minute shorter. Add to that the silliness of most of the Steve Trevor subplot, such as:

1) This guy doesn't have a passport, so obviously the easy move is to STEAL A PLANE FROM THE SMITHSONIAN, and

2) Being able to fly a WWI plane means that Trevor can just jump into a jet and learn how to use it (not just use it, but show OFF in it) in a couple of minutes.

The movie had serious problems. It only worked as well as it did because the cast was very capable. They took some pretty weak material and sold it to the best of their abilities... and those abilities were pretty impressive.

I'll be adding the movie to my collection, but it's definitely not a favorite.
